  • It’s back ... annual free online shipping event

    Mark your calendars. Free Shipping Day, the one-day online event featuring free shipping with no minimum order requirement and delivery by Christmas Eve, is scheduled this year for Friday, Dec. 16.

    "While we try to schedule the event one week before Christmas Eve, the calendar doesn't always accomodate," said Luke Knowles, founder of Free Shipping Day.  "What sets Free Shipping Day apart from other shopping holidays is small business participation.”

  • Nordstrom Rack’s set to open at New Orleans’ Riverwalk

    A “Rally at the Rack” party is planned for Oct. 6 in downtown New Orleans for the opening of Nordstrom Rack’s store at The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk.   Nordstrom Rack will anchor the south side of the center, which owner Howard Hughes Corporation bills as the nation’s first downtown outlet location. Among the 75-or-so retail brands already doing business there are Guess Factory Store, Kay Jewelers Outlet, Neiman Marcus Last Call Studio, Reebok Outlet Store, and Wilson’s Leather.  
  • Special webinar: Workplace violence

    Chain Store Age will present a webinar on workplace violence — and how to create an emergency response plan to deal with violent incidents — on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. (EDT).   The webinar, sponsored by Center for Applied Learning at American Public University System, will present an overview of the different types of workplace violence, best practices for conducting “active shooter” response training for employees and recognizing signs of potential workplace violence and more.
  • Fox named VP at Divaris

    Photo: George Fox   Divaris Real Estate has named George Fox VP of sales and leasing at its Virginia Beach office. He will represent both landlords and tenants in North Carolina and Virginia, with a primary focus on the Hampton Roads market.  
  • Magnolia Bakery, six others, open at New York outlet center

    Magnolia Bakery, the Greenwich Village shop that ignited the cupcake craze with its appearance on "Sex in the City," opens this week at Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in Central Valley, New York.   This is the first storefront for Magnolia on the East Coast, aside from its original location. It maintains shops in Los Angeles, Chicago, Honolulu, Japan, Korea, Mexico, and the United Arab Emirates.

    This year, Hanukkah and Christmas Eve both fall on the last Saturday before Christmas, dubbed Super Saturday, which is likely to have a dramatic impact on traffic on that day.
