  • Omnichannel talent added at Integer Group

    The retail and shopper marketing firm Integer Group, an Omnicom company, made three key hires to bolster its efforts in the omnichannel world.

    Integer said it filled three positions within its Retail Arts Lab which it described as a physical and virtual space where the retail environment is being transformed by intersecting shopper behavior and emerging technologies.

  • Macy’s head merchant Gennette named president

    Jeffrey Gennette will take on the new role of president at Macy's after serving the past five years as the department store retailer’s chief merchandising officer.

    Gennette will report to Macy’s chairman and CEO Terry Lundgren and retain day-to-day responsibility for Macy's merchandising functions, as well as oversight of marketing and macys.com. In addition, he assumes oversight responsibility for Macy's private brands organization.

  • Egg producer names Webb to new ops role

    The nation’s largest egg producer, Cal-Maine Foods, named Wil Webb to a new role as vp of operations.

    Webb will be responsible for the company’s extensive production facilities in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi and reports to Cal-Maine COO Sherman Miller. Webb has been employed with Cal-Maine Foods since 1997 and most recently served as general manager of the company’s operations in Edwards, Mississippi.

  • Consumer spending rises in February

    Washington, D.C. -- Consumers opened up their pocketbooks a bit in February, according to figures released Friday by the U.S. Commerce Department. Consumer spending increased 0.3% last month after a downwardly revised gain of 0.2% in January. The February increase was the biggest since November.

    Personal income was up 0.3%, matching January's gain. It was the second straight monthly increase.

     

  • Report: U.S. retailers have $300 million credit with ocean freight carriers

    Washington, D.C. – U.S. retailers reportedly have $300 million in refunds with ocean freight vendors, yet they are unaware of this because of invoice errors by their ocean freight transportation providers. According to a report from ocean freight auditing service Ocean Audit, problems with infrastructure of ocean freight carriers are also part of the issue.

  • PetSmart opens new DC in Pennsylvania

    Phoenix -- PetSmart on Friday celebrated the opening of a new distribution center in Berks County, Pa.

    The new facility will bring an estimated 500 jobs to Berks County by the end of 2016. The 870,000-sq.-ft. DC will serve 25% of PetSmart’s stores in eleven states, handling and delivering consumables, hard goods and fish to 170 PetSmart stores in 2014 and more than 260 stores by 2015.

    Bangalore, India – Mobile cloud platform company MobStac has added a new set of mobile commerce features that are capable of providing consumers with a universal shopping experience across all devices. The MobStac platform now provides an extension for all major commerce backend systems such as Magento and OpenCart.

  • Doerken acquires Oceanside, Calif., shopping center

    Oceanside, Calif. — Doerken Properties Inc. has acquired Flags on Mission Shopping Center in Oceanside, Calif., for $12.6 million. El Super grocery and dd’s Discounts anchor the 107,600-sq.-ft. property.

    The Carlsbad, Calif., office of Lee & Associates brokered the transaction representing both the buyer and the seller, Mission Avenue Investors.
