  • Kohl’s announces a 'green' first

    Menomonee Falls, Wis. -- Kohl’s Department Stores’ new store prototype has achieved LEED Gold precertification using the LEED for Retail: New Construction rating system, making Kohl’s the first U.S. company to achieve this designation in the LEED Volume Program. The program, administered by the United States Green Building Council, launched in November 2010.

  • Subway opens 400 new locations in August/September, expands green offerings

    Milford, Conn. — Subway said Monday that it opened more than 400 sandwich shops during August and September in 44 countries, 36 U.S. states and seven Canadian provinces.

    The new restaurants account for more than 480,000 sq. ft. of retail space and bring the total number of Subways to just over 35,300 locations in 98 countries.

  • DOE recognizes new energy standard

    New York City -- Commercial and high-rise residential buildings, along with federal buildings, must now meet requirements in the ASHRAE/IES 2007 energy standard after rulings issued by the Department of Energy.

    Prior to the new rules, federal and commercial buildings had to meet requirements in the 2004 standard.

  • New Stop & Shop to pursue LEED certification

    Quincy. Mass. -- Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. on Saturday will open its third location in Cranston, R.I. The new store will pursue LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification in the coming months.

    The new Stop & Shop was built with a range of energy-efficient features, including a fabric duct ventilation system (from DuctSox). The application, designed to provide more uniform airflow is first of its kind use for Stop & Shop.

  • Stop & Shop opens third store in Cranston, R.I.

    QUINCY, Mass. — Stop & Shop is opening the doors of its third store in Cranston, R.I., this weekend, the supermarket chain announced Friday.

    "We value the relationship we have with our Cranston area customers and community partners and are pleased to open another store to help further serve the community," Stop & Shop New England division president Mark McGowan said.

  • Burberry, Walgreens and Tesco among winners of Oracle World Retail Awards

    Chicago -- Burberry, Walgreens, Ralph Lauren’s Roger Farrah and Tesco were among the winners at the annual Oracle World Retail Awards, which took place on Tuesday during the annual World Retail Congress in Berlin.

    Burberry took home the Retailer of the Year Award. The luxury brand was cited for its far-sighted leadership, professionalism and a compelling offer across multiple platforms.

  • Kohl's opens 30 new stores, focuses on innovation

    MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. — Kohl’s Department Stores has announced the grand opening of 30 new stores across 20 states. According to the company, these openings will create approximately 4,000 new jobs.
