  • Walmart pumps up the fuel savings

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart is bringing Americans some much-wanted relief at the pump this fall and winter with the return of its "Great Gas Rollback" program.

  • Ralph Lauren names CFO

    New York -- Ralph Lauren Corp. has appointed Christopher H. Peterson as SVP and CFO. He succeeds Tracey Travis, who resigned in July to join The Estee Lauder Cos. Inc.

    Most recently, Peterson served as CFO of Proctor & Gamble Co.’s Global Household Care division.

  • Barnes & Noble forms Nook deal with U.K. retailer

    NEW YORK — U.K. retailer John Lewis has become the first company outside of the United States to partner with Barnes & Noble for the sale of Nook devices.

    John Lewis will offer Nook products at  37 U.K. stores and on www.johnlewis.com. As previously disclosed, Barnes & Noble will also offer Nook devices and content to U.K. customers this autumn through its own online storefront, www.nook.co.uk.

  • Brown Shoe narrows loss; raises outlook

    St. Louis, Mo. -- Brown Shoe Co Inc. on Tuesday  posted a smaller second-quarter loss, helped by cost-cutting and higher sales at its Famous Footwear stores. The retailer also raised the lower end of its full-year profit outlook.

    Brown Shoe’s quarterly loss narrowed to $2.5 million, compared with a loss of $4.6 million a year earlier.

    Revenue decreased  to $599.3 million. Same-store sales rose 3.9%.
     

  • Supervalu selects LoyaltyOne solution to develop customer segmentation strategy

    Toronto -- LoyaltyOne announced that Supervalu has agreed to use its Precima customer-centric analytics solution to develop a multi-dimensional customer segmentation. The U.S. grocer expects the solution will strengthen and expand its customer-driven marketing, merchandising and operations strategies.

  • Ulta to open three-level flagship in Philadelphia

    Philadelphia -- Ulta Beauty will open a flagship in Philadelphia on Rittenhouse Row in the Center City district. The store will be the beauty retailer’s first location in Center City.

    “Ulta will open an exciting three level store much like its only other signature urban store in Chicago,” said Steve O’Malley, partner at Fameco Real Estate, who represented the retailer in the transaction.

  • Supervalu selects customer segmentation software

    TORONTO — Supervalu has agreed to use LoyaltyOne's Precima customer-centric analytics solution, to develop a multi-dimensional customer segmentation, LoyaltyOne announced.

    Precima's multi-dimensional segmentation analysis will use customer data to help Supervalue better understand its customers and classify them in a way that translates into actionable insights, the company said. Those insights drive improvements with a goal of being more responsive to customer needs.

  • Former Procter & Gamble exec named Ralph Lauren CFO

    NEW YORK — Ralph Lauren has named Christopher Peterson as SVP and CFO. Peterson will assume his new role effective Sept. 24, and his areas of responsibility will include the company’s global finance and information technology organizations. He will report to Roger Farah, president and COO.
