  • Study: Convenience trumps price for both in-store and online shoppers

    Boston -- The number one reason people choose to shop either in-person or online is convenience and not price, according to the results of a new survey released by Continuum, a global design and innovation consultancy. Continuum's 2012 Service Design Report looked at data from more than 1,000 consumers across the country and uncovered the top reasons they choose whether to shop in-stores or online.

    The top reasons respondents say they shop in stores are:
    • For convenience (40%);
    • They don't trust the quality online (22%);

  • Uniqlo spreads U.S. roots

    NEW YORK — Value priced apparel and accessories retailer Uniqlo continues its U.S. expansion with the opening of two stores in the Northeast.

    The global clothing retailer is strengthening its toehold on the Northeast with two new stores opening at Palisades Center in West Nyack, N.Y., and Westchester’s Ridge Hill in Yonkers, N.Y., by spring 2013.

  • ALCO to deploy Revionics pricing solutions

    Abilene, Kansas -- ALCO Stores and Revionics Inc. announced a multi-year partnership, which will support optimal pricing decisions throughout ALCO’s 217 stores.

    Revionics Life Cycle Price Optimization solutions and Analytic Solutions will enable ALCO to design and execute regional, localized pricing initiatives, timing of markdowns, promotional pricing and analysis of customer market baskets and key volume items.

  • Former J&J exec named CFO at data management group

    The global data management organization known as 1WorldSync named Gary Lo as its new CFO.

    Lo spent the past 15 years in finance roles at Johnson & Johnson and other leading companies. At 1WorldSync he will be responsible for global finance, accounting, treasury, internal controls and legal functions.

  • Two new Nordstrom Racks in the works

    Seattle -- Nordstrom announced plans to open two new Nordstrom Rack stores, with one in Atlanta, at the Perimeter Expo shopping center, which is owned by Kimco Realty Corp., and the other in Naples, Fla., at The Mercato.

    The 36,000-sq,-ft. Atlanta store is scheduled to open in fall 2013. The 30,000-sq.-ft. Naples store is scheduled to open in fall 2013.

    Total U.S. Shopper Traffic in Retail Stores and Malls for December 2012

    Holiday shopping reached its seasonal peak in December, driving a 36.6 percent retail foot traffic increase over November. Further, December 2012 continued a trend of year-over-year improvements in the number of shoppers visiting stores with a 1.2 percent increase in foot traffic when compared to the same month last year.
