  • Sports Chalet turns to PR agency to re-establish brand

    LOS ANGELES — Specialty sporting goods retailer Sport Chalet is looking to public relations boutique agency Formula PR to help establish its brand as a leader within the active lifestyle industry. 

    The multi-faceted program will focus on elevating visibility around Sport Chalet’s in-house health and fitness experts, heightening regional awareness through interactive events and custom programs, in addition to connecting with consumers, and positioning the brand as the go-to resource for education, training and gear in the vast sports arena. 

  • Chic 2 Chic to open at Foxborough Plaza

    Foxborough, Mass. -- Charter Realty & Development said that it has signed a lease with consignment boutique Chic 2 Chic at the Foxborough Plaza, a 118,844-sq.-ft. shopping center in Foxborough, Mass.

    The 22,000-sq.-ft. store is a relocation from downtown Foxborough and is the company’s only current store in the state.

    The Foxborough Plaza, owned and managed by WP Realty, is almost 100% occupied, anchored by Ocean State Job Lot, and also featuring Dollar Tree, Dunkin Donuts and Xtreme Fitness.

     

  • Toys ‘R’ Us names interim CEO

    New York -- Toys "R" Us has appointed Antonio Urcelay, 61, the head of its European operations, as interim CEO, according to a filing the retailer made on Monday with the Securities and Exchange commission, The Record reported.

    Urcelay replaces Gerald Storch, who announced in February that he would be stepping. At the time, Storch said he would remain as CEO during the transition. While his role as chief executive ended Sunday, he continues to serve as chairman of the board.

  • Bebe beefs up board

    BRISBANE, Calif. — Bebe has named global entrepreneur Narry Singh to the company’s board of directors. 

    Singh has been an entrepreneur, hands-on executive, adviser and deal-maker for more than 20 years, with a focus on launching and growing businesses in the digital entertainment, new media, e-commerce and software sectors. Singh was recently selected by the United Nations Foundation as one of their Top 10 “Global Entrepreneurs” and will serve as their entrepreneurship and innovation ambassador for two years.

  • BJ’s Wholesale launches Micros’ new loss prevention exception reporting solution

    Westboro, Mass. -- MICROS-Retail, a division of Micros Systems, announced BJ's Wholesale's successful launch of Micros-Retail's next generation loss prevention and business analytics solution, XBR Ingenium.
       
    As an existing user of MICROS-Retail's XBR, BJ's launched a pilot of XBR Ingenium.  After a successful program, BJ's is now deploying Micros-Retail XBR Ingenium company-wide, seeking to increase the investigative capabilities and productivity of its asset protection team.

  • Aaron's names former Equifax exec as senior VP

    Atlanta -- Aaron's has appointed Robert W. Kamerschen as the company’s senior VP and general counsel.

    Kamerschen will be responsible for managing all legal and governmental affairs for Aaron's, including employment law, regulatory matters, intellectual property, litigation, vendor relationships, financings, acquisitions and other general legal matters. As general counsel, he will report directly to chairman, president and CEO Ronald W. Allen.

  • Amazon banks on digital currency

    SEATTLE — Amazon has launched its own currency, which customers will be able to use to purchase apps, games and in-app items from the Amazon Appstore and on Kindle Fire.

    To celebrate the launch, existing and new Kindle Fire customers in the U.S. have had 500 free Coins — a $5 value — deposited into their Amazon accounts. 

  • Cassidy Turley announces promotions

    Minneapolis -- Cassidy Turley announced the promotion of five employees at its Minneapolis office.
     
    Brian Woolsey has been promoted to managing director; he previously served as senior VP. Jennifer Pelant has been promoted to associate VP from associate; Mark Richardson has been promoted to assistant chief operating engineer, from lead operating engineer; Angela Samargia has been promoted to senior property manager, from property manager; and Robert Franks was promoted to business manager from senior office manager.
