  • Staples acquires personalization vendor

    Framingham, Mass. – Staples, Inc. has completed the acquisition of Runa, a software company based in San Mateo, Calif., that helps online retailers increase sales by personalizing the shopping experience. Terms and conditions of the acquisition were not disclosed.

  • Wolverine brand opens first-ever permanent store

    Rugged boot manufacturer Wolverine has opened a permanent store in New York's Nolita at 254 Elizabeth St. The company decided to give the retail space a try following its successful New York pop-up venture in fall 2012.

  • Sabre announces passing of executive VP

    Garden City, N.Y. — Beth L. Lamport, 70, executive VP with Sabre Real Estate Group LLC died Sept. 27 at her home in Port Washington.

    The cause was uterine cancer. “She was a dynamo in the business,” said Kenneth Breslin, a Sabre principal.

     

  • Burlington has blowout first day

    Shares of Burlington Stores surged more than 40% in their first day of trading as the company executed an initial public offering on Wednesday.

    The retailer operates 503 stores primarily under the name Burlington Coat Factory and sold 13.3 million shares that were priced at $17, slightly above an earlier range of $14 to $16. The limited number of shares contributed to strong demand and at the open the stock price popped more than 40% and closed at $25.13.

    Proceeds from the sale were estimated to total roughly $205 million which the company planned to use to repay debt.

  • DDR closes on $1.46 billion transaction with Blackstone

    Beachwood, Ohio — DDR Corp. has closed a previously announced acquisition of a portfolio of 30 power centers from a joint venture with Blackstone Real Estate Partners VII L.P. and settled its forward equity sale. DDR acquired Blackstone’s 95% share.

    The company funded the investment through a combination of proceeds from the issuance of new common equity and unsecured debt, preferred equity and mezzanine loan repayments and the assumption of existing mortgage debt.

  • Study: Purchasing of products associated with a cause up 170% since 1993

    Boston -- Over half (54%) of American bought a product associated with a cause over the last 12 months, a 170% increase since 1993, according to a report by Cone Communications. And 89% of Americans are likely to switch brands to one associated with a cause, given comparable price and quality, up nearly 35% since 1993.

  • Sam’s Club opens new Illinois store

    Bentonville, Ark. -- Sam's Club will open its newest club at 460 S. Weber Road in Romeoville, Ill., on Oct. 3. The Romeoville club will become the 21st Sam's Club in the Chicago area.
