  • Hhgregg prepares for holiday shopping season

    Hhgregg plans to hire more than 450 home electronics and home appliances salespeople this holiday season to support its 228 stores.

  • DD’s Discounts opens first Oklahoma store Sept. 27

    Dublin, Calif. – DD’s Discounts, a division of Ross Stores Inc. will open its first store in Oklahoma, on Sept. 27. The store is located in the Windsor Hills Center in Oklahoma City.  

    Including this new location, DD’s Discounts will operate more than 150 locations in 15 states and is on schedule to complete its expansion plan to open approximately 20 locations in 2014.

     

  • Smoothie King to roll out Revel iPad POS solution

    Covington, La. - Smoothie King Franchises Inc. will roll out the Revel Systems iPad POS solution at 700 stores globally in fall 2014. Smoothie King selected the Revel platform for its scalability and ability to streamline operations.

  • REI to open in the Village at Westfield Topanga

    Seattle -- REI will open a nearly 30,000-sq.-ft., two-level store in the Village at Westfield Topanga, Woodland Hills, California, in fall 2015.

    "REI Topanga will join five other stores in serving more than 352,000 active REI members in the greater Los Angeles area. More than 62,000 active members reside within 15 miles of the new store.

Small-format Express stores have been open now for several years, the new convenience concept Walmart To Go opened earlier this year and the latest development is a hybrid concept that allows online grocery orders to be picked up at a dedicated drive-through facility.

  • Jon Kubo returns to The Wet Seal; named executive VP and chief digital officer

    Foothills Ranch, Calif. -- The Wet Seal named Jon Kubo as executive VP and chief digital officer, a newly created position, effective Oct. 6. Kubo will oversee e-commerce, digital marketing and the information technology organization to integrate digital consumer experiences across all business touch points.

  • Sears Canada CEO to leave by year-end; search on for new chief

    Toronto -- Sears Canada Inc. announced that Douglas C. Campbell, president and CEO, intends to resign and return to the United States by yearend for “personal family” issues. Campbell, formerly COO of Sears Canada, was appointed to the top spot in September 2013, after former head Calvin McDonald quit.  

    Campbell was charged with turning around a struggling chain, which has seen eight years of falling sales.
