  • Dollarama's same store sales jump 8.5%

    Some retailers have had a rough time being successful in Canada, but not Dollarama, where profits, sales and store counts are on the increase.

    In fact, customers increased their spending at the Canadian discounter over the fourth quarter, leading to  the chain’s quarterly profit rising about 21%.

  • NCR to help modernize Defense Commissary Agency’s systems

    Duluth, Ga. -- NCR Corp. announced that NCR Government Systems will modernize operations for the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA). DeCA’s Enterprise Business Solution (EBS), built upon NCR’s software solutions, will help to transform DeCA’s mission-critical retail systems and provide industry-leading capabilities that optimize its operations from warehouse replenishment through to the point-of-sale, along with customer loyalty management and payment solutions.

  • Destination XL Group swings to Q4 profit

    Canton, Mass. -- Destination XL Group Inc. grew sales and margin and swung to a profit in its fourth-quarter, reporting net income of $1.6 million, after a $55.1 million loss in the same period a year earlier. It also announced plans to open 40 DXL stores in 2015.

    The retailer of men’s big and tall apparel reported revenue of $119.6 million in the period. Sales per square foot in DXL stores rose 10% to $165. Total same-store sales increased 8.9%.

  • Five Below to open 70 stores in 2015

    Teen and tween specialty retailer Five Below is accelerating store growth this year even though its relatively young store base mustered a modest 3.2% fourth quarter same store sales increase.

    Five Below opened 62 new stores last year compared to 60 units the prior year to end the year with 366 locations in 21 states. The additional selling space and a 3.2% comp increase caused sales to increase 24.4% to $264 million from $212 million. Profits increased to $33.3 million compared to $24.8 million.

  • JLL expands Gulf Coast platform with retail and office expertise

    Mobile, Ala. -- JLL announced the expansion of its platform in Alabama with the addition of Shannon Tyndall and Allen Garstecki. Tyndall and Garstecki join JLL as VPs, and bring more than 20 years of combined experience to the firm. They will be based in the firm’s Mobile office, bolstering the existing practice that JLL built last year when it added Gulf Coast Retail Brokerage lead Josh Burmeister and VP Buff Teague.

    The team provides retail and office expertise throughout Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and the Florida Panhandle.

  • Kleinfeld Hudson’s Bay named Store of the Year by A.R.E.

    Las Vegas -- Kleinfeld Hudson’s Bay, a glamorous bridal shop on the top floor of the Hudson’s Bay’s flagship and headquarters building in Toronto,  took the big prize — Store of the Year — in the Association for Retail Environments 2015 Design Awards. The annual awards recognize the best in retail design, store fixtures and visual presentation.
     

  • Destination XL posts double-digit comps

    Destination XL Group Inc. reached a new level of performance in the fourth quarter with a whopping 16.4% same store sales increase.

  • PayPal to pay $7.7 million in U.S. Treasury sanctions case

    New York -- PayPal Inc. has agreed to pay $7.7 million in a deal to settle charges by the U.S. Treasury Department that the electronic payments giant violated numerous sanctions programs against countries that include Iran, Cuba and Sudan, Reuters reported.

    The Office of Foreign Assets Control, an agency of the Treasury Department, on Wednesday announced the civil settlement.
