  • Report: Sprint may be saving RadioShack

    A plan to co-brand RadioShack stores with the Sprint logo will apparently save the chain from extinction, according to the Wall Street Journal.  

  • GNC names new marketing partners

    On the heels of questions over quality control standards for its herbal supplements, GNC has announced three new marketing partners.

    GNC said the new agency partners – Consigliere (brand management/creative/advertising), CROSSMEDIA (media/communications planning) and 22squared (digital and social media) – will help drive profitable growth for the brand.

  • Obama creates sanctions for cybercriminals

    Washington, D.C. – President Barack Obama has signed an executive order creating sanctions for cybercriminals who engage in crimes against the U.S. from foreign locations. The order allows the U.S. to impose sanctions on individuals who harm critical infrastructure, damage computer systems, or steal trade secrets, and sensitive information through cyberattacks based outside the U.S.

    The order does not specify what type of sanctions can be imposed.

  • Online retailer Nasty Gal opens second store

    Santa Monica, Calif. -- Online fashion fave Nasty Gal has opened its second brick-and-mortar location, on Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, California. At 6,500 sq. ft., the new store is nearly triple the size of the retailer’s first location, on Melrose Ave. in Los Angeles, and is filled with neon accents and kitschy-but-hip accents.

  • Study: Costco, Amazon tops in customer loyalty

    Costco, Amazon.com and Apple rank highest in customer loyalty, according to this year’s Net Promoter Consumer Study.

    The study ranks more than 220 brands, such as Costco, Amazon.com, Apple and more across 22 U.S. industry sectors, including financial services, insurance, technology, online entertainment, retail stores, electronics, travel and hospitality, and telecommunications.

  • Supervalu lets customers stack coin

    Eden Prairie, Minn. – Supervalu Inc. wants customers to be able to stack some coin. The grocery retailer has added Cummins Allison’s Money Machine 2 self-service coin counters across multiple store locations in Maryland, Missouri, Illinois and Virginia.

    Supervalu selected the new Money Machine 2 coin counters because of their flexibility. Additionally, Cummins Allison provided Supervalu with opportunities to increase their coin redemption revenue without increasing user fees.

  • Report: Staples-Office Depot merger on track

    Boca Raton, Fla. – A second request for information from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will reportedly not slow down the pending merger of Staples and Office Depot. According to the South Florida Business Journal, the FTC has requested unspecified additional documents and information from Office Depot.

  • IBM brings the weather to retailers; teams up with parent of Weather Channel

    Armonk, N.Y. – The weather is traditionally a topic for conversation when there is nothing else to discuss, but for retailers knowing what the weather will be is a vital concern. IBM and The Weather Company, parent company of the Weather Channel, are partnering to integrate real-time weather insights into business to improve operational performance and decision-making.
