  • Office Depot seeks Staples vote June 19

    Boca Raton, Fla. – Office Depot is seeking a shareholder vote on its proposed $6.3 billion merger with Staples Inc. at its annual meeting on June 19. According to a statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Office Depot is requesting that shareholders approve the proposed acquisition by Staples.

    In addition to approval by Office Depot shareholders, the agreement also needs to be approved by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). With all approvals in place, the deal would finalize by the end of 2015.

  • Report: Target to push some brands less

    Minneapolis – Target Inc. does not want to be your father’s mass merchandiser. According to the Wall Street Journal, Target has informed established CPG companies including Campbell Soup, Kraft, General Mills and Kellogg Co. that it will promote their brands less to place more emphasis on brands that meet the changing preferences of modern consumers.

  • Kohl's opening 'Off Aisle' concept in New Jersey

    Kohl’s is preparing to open a store in Southern New Jersey called "Off Aisle by Kohl's," a name that suggests the company may be following the lead of other retailers opening off-price formats.

    It is not readily apparent what the assortment or pricing will be at the new offering from Kohl's. Multiple attempts to reach representatives at Kohl's were unsuccessful.

  • Dover Saddlery net loss grows in Q1; will open five to seven stores

    Littleton, Mass. – Dover Saddlery Inc. experienced an increase in net loss during the first quarter of fiscal 2015, seeing it jump to $776,000 from $543,000 the same quarter a year earlier. Total revenues rose 16% to $22.8 million from $19.7 million, and same-store sales rose 3%.

  • RH names real estate chief

    Corte Madera, Calif. - David Stanchak has joined RH (Restoration Hardware Holdings Inc.) as chief real estate and development officer, effective immediately. In this newly created position, Stanchak will be leading the transformation of RH’s current legacy galleries into next generation Design Galleries, with responsibility for the company's real estate and store development efforts.

    Stanchak will report to RH’s chairman and CEO Gary Friedman, and serve as a member of the company’s executive leadership team.

    Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores is teaming up with an A-list celebrity mom on a new line of craft kids for children.

    The retailer has nabbed an exclusive partnership with Jennifer Garner on a new line of creative kits and projects for active kids. We Made It by Jennifer Garner will be available exclusively at Jo-Ann stores and Joann.com beginning in June. 

  • Report: Restoration Hardware to open largest U.S. store in Las Vegas

    Corte Madera, Calif. - RH (Restoration Hardware Holdings Inc.) is reportedly planning to open a more than 70,000-sq.-ft. RH Gallery format store at the Tivoli Village upscale shopping center in Las Vegas. According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, the store would be the largest Restoration Hardware location in the U.S.

  • RH to build largest U.S. store in Las Vegas

    The retailer formerly known as Restoration Hardware has hired a chief real estate officer to lead the latest installment of its evolution into a "design gallery": a 70,000-square-foot store in Las Vegas.
