  • Dillard’s cooks up nearly $1M for Ronald McDonald House

    Sales of an exclusive holiday cookbook will allow Dillard’s to donate more than $900,000 to of Ronald McDonald House Charities.   For the seventh year in a row, Dillard's offered for sale a special edition of the Southern Living Christmas Cookbook to benefit RMHC.   
  • Orchard Supply Hardware opens three new stores

    San Jose, Calif. -- Orchard Supply Hardware announced it has opened three new stores, including a location in Portland, Oregon, and two in California (Irvine, and Cerritos).

    In addition to the 300 jobs these new stores have created, the retailer plans to hire an additional 1,000 associates as it prepares for the busy spring season, and to support its continuing growth.
     

  • McMillon to speak at CRE event

    The Emerging Trends in Retail conference will take place at a new data and time, but the big news is that Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., president and CEO Doug McMillon will headline the annual event put on by the Center for Retailing Excellence.  
  • L Brands gives shareholders big gift

    Shareholders of Victoria’s Secret parent company L Brands received an early Valentine’s Day gift after the company said fourth quarter profits were much better than expected and it would pay a $2 a share special dividend.

    The company said same store sales increased 7% and total sales for the four week period ended Jan. 31 increased 7% to $783.1 million. Sales for the full fourth quarter period also increased 7% to slightly more than $4 billion while same store sales grew 6%.

  • L Brands Q4 sales better than expected; increases dividend

    Columbus, Ohio -- L Brands shareholders will receive a post-holiday gift in the way of a $2 a share special dividend. The news comes as the retailer, which also increased its ordinary annual dividend by 47% to $2 a share from $1.36 a share, reported significantly better than expected profits for its fourth quarter.

    L Brands, whose brands include Victoria’s Secret, Bath & Body Works and La Senza, said same-store sales increased 7% and total sales for the four-week period ended Jan. 31 increased 7% to $783.1 million.

    New York -- Staples has entered an agreement to acquire Office Depot in a cash and stock deal valued at $6.3 billon that is sure to face a high degree of regulatory scrutiny.

    Target chairman and CEO Brian Cornell has made some bold moves since arriving at Target last fall, but the most significant revelations concerning long term prospects will come in early March when the company hosts its first investor conference of the Cornell era.

  • Academy Sports + Outdoors moving Eastward with four stores in Orlando area

    New York -- Academy Sports + Outdoors will celebrate the simultaneous opening of four stores in the Orlando, Florida, area in March.

    The new stores will be located in Kissimmee, Waterford, Lake Mary and Melbourne and will open simultaneously at 8:30 a.m. on March 6. The openings mark the Katy, Texas-based company’s furthest expansion eastward to date.

    The $4 billion sporting goods retailer has entered into a multi-year partnership with the Orlando City Soccer Club beginning with the team's inaugural 2015 season.
