  • Teen retailer names its first chief digital officer

    Tilly’s has appointed Jon Kubo to serve in the company’s newly created position of chief digital officer, effective Aug. 15.   Kubo will oversee e-commerce and digital marketing to define a long-term vision for the specialty retailer’s digital commerce efforts and create consistency in digital consumer experiences across all interaction points.  
  • Publix invites customers to its first-ever blog

    Publix Super Markets is expanding its online outreach by launching the company’s first blog for engaging with customers.   The blog, called Publix Checkout, was created with the customer in mind, the company says. Blog posts will range in topic from recipes, community initiatives and sustainability ideas to holiday entertaining, health and wellness and more. Visitors to the blog can comment on posts or share them on social media sites.  
  • CBRE makes two key Midwest hires

    Two long-tenured retail real estate veterans have joined CBRE Group’s retail services teams in key Ohio markets.    New to CBRE’s Cincinnati office is Melissa Ruther, whose 15-year career has included stints in both leasing and tenant representation at Anchor Associates, Edge Real Estate Group, and most recently JLL. A CBRE press release made note of her strong relationships with retailers, developers, and the brokerage community.  
  • Department store offers more flexible, personalized loyalty program

    Nordstrom Inc. is enhancing the rewards it offers customers via its loyalty program.    The retailer partnered with Aimia Inc., a data-driven marketing and loyalty analytics company, to expand the Nordstrom Rewards loyalty program.   The expanded program launched in Nordstrom stores in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico, and on Nordstrom.com in May 2016. In the first three months, Nordstrom has enrolled approximately 1.7 million new members.  
  • Veteran marketer joins outdoor retailer

    Gander Mountain announced that Ron Stoupa will join the company as senior VP - marketing & e-commerce starting on Monday, Aug. 15.      Stoupa will lead all marketing and e-commerce functions, including brand development, customer engagement and omnichannel initiatives for Gander Mountain.   
  • Off-pricer announces further Canadian expansion

    Nordstrom Rack has announced a fourth location as it makes preparations to drop anchor north of the border.   Nordstrom announced that Nordstrom Rack will open a 35,000-sq.-ft. store at South Edmonton Common in Edmonton, Alberta, in fall 2018.     The property is owned and managed by Cameron Corporation and CREIT.    
  • Toy exec joins Gap board

    The chief executive of Hasbro Inc. has joined the board of directors of Gap Inc., effective Aug. 12.   The retailer said it is adding Brian D. Goldner to its board as the merchant focuses on its “next era of retail.” His appointment comes shortly after Gap posted a disappointing sales for the second quarter.   
  • Edens to make Buckhead center over with local retailers

    Andrews Square in the Buckhead section of Atlanta is being infused with local flavor.    Signed as the new anchor at the center in the affluent neighborhood’s West Village section is Lucy’s Market, a purveyor of organics, fresh produce, and prepared meals owned by West Village resident Kim Wilson.   Center owner Edens is in the midst of a makeover of Andrews Square intended to make it blend with the local landscape and culture.
