  • Goya Foods recognizes achievement

    Jorge A. Plasencia was the inaugural recipient of the Goya Hispanic Achievement Award presented this week in New York.

    Goya, the largest Hispanic-owned food company, and the Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce created the award to recognize a Hispanic leader or organization in the fields of business, arts, science and social responsibility.  The award was presented to Plasencia at an exclusive gala dinner at the New York City Public Library, attended by more than 250 people.

    FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Staples is bringing its branded products to Japan through a wholesale distribution relationship with Jointex, a leading office products wholesaler and division of Plus Corp., a manufacturer of stationery and office furniture based in Tokyo.

  • Ikea FY sales up, continues remodel of Marketplace

    CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.  — Ikea reported that sales for its fiscal year 2012 grew by 9.5% and profits were up 8% to $4.2 billion, thanks to its model of offering low-cost, functional furniture. Comparable-store sales were up 8% at its U.S. stores.

  • Pilgrim Furniture City expands partnership with TD Retail Card Services

    Mahwah, N.J. -- Connecticut retailer Pilgrim Furniture City has expanded its relationship with TD Retail Card Services, moving from the company’s Renovate Card program to a branded private label card created specifically for Pilgrim customers.

  • TPN adds Shamberg to team

    Retail marketing agency, TPN, part of the Diversified Agency Services division of Omnicom, named Scott Shamberg SVP of growth and emerging commerce.

    TPN said the addition of Shamberg would help the firm stay ahead of the curve as the retail and commerce landscape continues to evolve.

  • Demandware fits Ecco shoes e-commerce needs

    The Ecco shoe brand has engaged the services of Demandware to power its new U.S. e-commerce and mobile commerce site. The company also plans to use Demandware’s cloud platform to quickly and efficiently expand internationally, beginning with Canada.

    Ecco products are sold online and in 4,000 branded locations in more than 90 countries. 

  • The Price is Right?

    When Target recently announced its new online price matching policy, I’m sure I wasn’t the only retail analyst whose first thought was: “This could be a pretty big deal.” While a number of retailers (including Target itself) have experimented with similar price-matching or pricing guarantee programs in the past, this new policy takes things to a new level.

  • Wegmans to open in Alexandria, Va.

    New York -- Wegmans has confirmed plans to open a store in Alexandria, Va., in 2014, according to Washington Business Journal.

    The store will be located in Hilltop Village, which is being developed by Houston-based Weingarten Realty Investors. The project will feature some 250,000 sq. ft. of retail, anchored by the 143,000-sq.-ft. Wegmans, and 100,000 sq. ft. of office.
