  • Coca-Cola edits executive team

    The Coca-Cola Company’s board of directors has named Ed Steinike as a senior VP and Robert J. Jordan Jr. as a VP. Jordan will succeed William D. Hawkins III as general tax counsel, who announced his intention to retire in March 2014 after 15 years of service with the company.

  • Four Forces That Will Propel Retail Investment Sales in 2014

    The recession took a major toll on the retail real estate sector but, despite waffling consumer confidence, the sector continues to improve. Retail now accounts for 19% of total U.S. investment volume year-to-date 2013.

  • Shopko announces plans for two new Hometown stores

    Green Bay, Wis. -- Shopko announced plans to open two new Shopko Hometown stores. The stores, which will average 36,000 sq. ft., are located in Mayville, Wis., and Valentine, Neb.

  • Vitamin Shoppe files trademark suit

    North Bergen, N.J. – Vitamin Shoppe has announced that on Nov. 21, 2013 it filed suit against law firm Seeger Weiss LLP in New York federal court. Vitamin Shoppe argues that Seeger Weiss is infringing on the company's trademarks on a website designed to solicit plaintiffs for a class-action lawsuit over alleged misrepresentations related to its Bodytech protein supplements and is being harmed by unauthorized use of its trademarks.

  • Overstock.com adds eyeglasses to online assortment

    Discount online shopping retailer Overstock.com has added prescription brand-name glasses and sunglasses to its website.

    "Adding prescription eyewear to the Overstock website, with great names at great prices, seemed a natural fit," states Overstock.com chairman and CEO Patrick M. Byrne. "Unbeatable prices, fashionable styles, ease of ordering, stellar customer service, made the whole concept work for us and for our customers."

  • Chute Gerdeman appoints new VP of technology and experience design

    Strategic brand and design firm Chute Gerdeman has named Jim Crawford as VP of technology and experience design — a newly created position.

    Crawford will be charged with integrating next-generation technology into the shopping experiences and store designs that Chute Gerdeman creates for its clients.

  • Online retailer Respect Your Universe to open its first store

    Portland, Ore. – The online active lifestyle apparel retailer Respect Your Universe has signed a five year lease with General Growth Properties Inc. to open its initial flagship store in downtown Seattle at Westlake Center. The retailer has partnered with Los Angeles-based architect and retail strategist Richard Altuna to design the 2,082-sq.-ft. flagship store.

  • Safeway appoints new Eastern Division president

    Safeway has named Brian Baer as president of the company's Eastern Division.

    "Brian's proven management skills and experience will serve our customer base well in the Eastern Division," stated Kelly Griffith, Safeway EVP retail operations.

    Baer joined Safeway in 2001 as VP Finance for the company's Phoenix division. In 2004, he became group VP of finance planning and analysis at the Safeway's corporate headquarters. He joined the Dominick's division as CFO in 2008, and was promoted to president of that division in 2011.
