  • Earthwerks adds new head of product development and marketing strategy

    Houston -- EarthWerks flooring has added an additional position for the company. Lindsey Nisbet will join as head of product development and marketing strategy.     Nisbet will be focused on designing and developing new LVT products as well as determining the best ways to market and merchandise our line with our distribution and dealer network.  
  • Alibaba net income drops in Q3

    Hangzhou, China –- Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. reported net income of $494 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2014, down 39% from $803 million in the same quarter the prior year. Items including share-based compensation expense and the amortization of intangible assets helped drive down net income.  
  • Overstock takes aim at Amazon

    Discount online shopping site Overstock.com has lowered prices on books and is offering a 15% bonus to loyalty members in what CEO Patrick Byrne is calling a price war with Amazon.

    "We will analyze the results and cost benefits of this price war against Amazon and decide how long to continue the promotion. Right now it's scheduled to last through Cyber Monday," said Byrne.

  • J.C. Penney starts Black Friday 5 p.m. Thanksgiving Day

    Plano, Texas -- The J.C. Penney Co. Inc. will open stores and begin its Black Friday sale activities at 5 p.m. local time on Thanksgiving Day. The company announced its plans via a tweet on the official JCPenney news account.   This start time is an hour earlier than the 6 p.m. Thanksgiving opening time of competing department stores Macy’s and Sears, and three hours earlier than the 8 p.m. opening time Penney used for Thanksgiving 2013.

    Englewood, Colo. -- Sports Authority will host grand opening events for its new and improved stores in the Las Vegas area on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 8 a.m.  
  • Saks holidays more festive than ever

    Enchanted holidays are ahead for Saks Fifth Avenue and its shoppers.  On Monday, November 24, Saks’ flagship store in New York will debut An Enchanted Experience – a new show featuring the unveiling of the store's holiday windows and a dramatic light display incorporating the entire building.

    The Rockettes will perform on the opening night with a line of 36 dancers on the streets of Fifth Avenue.  The windows and light display presented exclusively by Master Card will continue throughout the holiday season.

  • Sally Beauty shuffles board membership

    Denton, Texas -- Martha J. Miller is retiring from the board of directors of Sally Beauty Holdings Inc., effective Nov. 3, 2014. Miller has served on the board since SBH became an independent public company in 2006.   
  • Innovation pro named partner at Kurt Salmon

    Kurt Salmon, a global management consulting firm, has appointed Brian Ehrig partner in its Retail and Consumer Products Group.

    Ehrig has spent the last 16 years creating new operational strategies and product offerings for retail and CPG companies, as well as leading transformation projects, including those for new market entrances and involving new retail concepts.
