  • Dollar General adds another DC

    Even if Dollar General doesn’t prevail in its efforts to acquire Family Dollar the company’s expanding distribution infrastructure is positioned to support future growth.

    Dollar General said it plans to build the 13th distribution center in its nationwide network in San Antonio. The facility will measure more than 900,000-sq.-ft., employ roughly 530 people and serve more than 1,000 stores when it opens in October 2015, the company said.

    Goodlettsville, Tenn. -- Dollar General Corporation announced plans to build a new state-of-the-art distribution center in San Antonio, Texas. It will be the 13th facility in the retailer’s growing distribution network.  
  • Frascotti named top toy exec at Hasbro

    Global branded play leader Hasbro, Inc. today announced the promotion of John Frascotti to the newly-created position of president, Hasbro Brands, effective immediately.

    In this new role, Frascotti assumes the additional responsibilities of worldwide product development and now oversees all of the company’s global marketing and design and development teams.  By combining the teams, the company will continue to drive strong innovation, maximize operational efficiency, facilitate greater collaboration and streamline decision-making.

  • Fairway names chief merchandising officer

    New York -- Fairway Group Holdings announced that Dorothy Carlow will join the supermarket company as chief merchandising officer, effective Nov. 3. Carlow will lead the merchandising team and the company's buying and sales strategies.  
  • B&G Foods names Cantwell CEO

    Branded packaged food supplier B&G Foods elevated EVP and CFO Robert Cantwell to the role of CEO effective Jan. 1.

    Cantwell, 57, a long time B&G employee, succeeds David Wenner, 64, in the top job following Wenner’s decision earlier this year to retire. Wenner will remain on the board and the company has begun a search for a new CFO.

  • Sears names merchandising exec as acting CEO of Sears Canada

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. – Sears Holdings Corp. has named Ronald D. Boire, executive VP/chief merchandising officer of Sears Full Line Stores and Kmart Format, as acting president and CEO of Sears Canada. Boire will leave his role with Sears Holdings and replaces former Sears Canada CEO Douglas Campbell, who the company previously said would leave his post by the end of 2014.  
  • Abercrombie names Ann Taylor Loft exec as Hollister president

    New Albany, Ohio -- Abercrombie & Fitch Co. has named Fran Horowitz to the position of president of its Hollister brand. Horowitz, 51, will report to CEO Mike Jeffries and will have overall responsibility for all product and customer-facing activities for the Hollister brand, and for its financial performance. Horowitz is expected to commence employment with the company on or around Oct. 20, 2014.   
  • DirectBuy names new executive team

    Merrillville, Ind. -- DirectBuy, the membership-based buying organization that enables consumers to purchase from manufacturers and suppliers without retail markup, has named a new executive leadership team. This new team is led by new CEO Mike Bornhorst, who comes to DirectBuy after spending time in leadership positions with companies such as ADT and Culligan Water.
