  • Topshop opens its largest U.S. store

    New York -- British fast-fashion retailer Topshop, a unit of Arcadia Group, opened a flagship on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue, close to Rockefeller Center.  
  • Delhaize to sell Bottom Dollar stores to Aldi for $15 million

    Brussels, Belgium -- Delhaize Group has signed an agreement to sell its Bottom Dollar Food stores to deep-discount grocer Aldi Inc. for approximately $15 million, including the assumption of associated lease liabilities. The transaction, which involves  66 Bottom Dollar stores in the greater Philadelphia and Pittsburgh markets, is expected to result in an asset impairment and other charges for Delhaize Group of approximately $180 million.  
  • Walgreens files for bond offering to finance Alliance Boots purchase

    New York –- Walgreens has reportedly filed for an eight-part benchmark bond offering to help finance its planned $5.3 billion purchase of U.K. drugstore retailer Alliance Boots GmBH. According to Bloomberg, Walgreens has filed with the SEC for three-, five-, seven-, 10-, 20- and 30-year fixed-rate bonds, as well as 18-month and three-year floating-rate notes.  
  • ShopRunner in partnership with Alipay for U.S. retailers

    Mateo, Calif. -- ShopRunner announced a new partnership with Alipay which will pave the way for Chinese online shoppers to buy directly from U.S. retailers’ ecommerce sites. Alipay is China's leading e-payments provider and is widely used by hundreds of millions of Chinese online shoppers.  
  • Gap expanding footprint in China; testing virtual wall technology

    San Francisco -- Gap Inc. reported that it will surpass 100 Gap branded stores across mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan on Nov. 8 when the brand opens a location in Guangzhou. The milestone--reached less than four years after the first Gap store debuted in 2010--includes Gap and Gap Outlet stores.  
  • Delta Galil finds fit with new CEO

    Former Maidenform CEO Maurice Reznic was named Delta Galil’s CEO of women’s intimate apparel for U.S. and U.K. and president of its U.S. branch.

  • Nielsen: North American consumer confidence up in Q3

    New York -- Consumer confidence in the North America region improved four points to 107 on the Nielsen Consumer Confidence Index for the third quarter of 2014. Consumer confidence levels above and below a baseline of 100 indicate degrees of optimism and pessimism, respectively, with the latest results reflecting an outlook of cautious optimism.
