  • Sears Holdings names general counsel

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears Holdings announced today that Kristin M. Coleman will join the company as senior VP, general counsel and corporate secretary. Coleman most recently served as Brunswick Corporation's VP, general counsel and corporate secretary.

    Coleman will be responsible for the oversight and leadership of Sears Holdings' legal business.

  • Amazing Women identified by specialty retailer

    A lot of retailers hold contests, but few discover winners as worthy of recognition as the difference-makers who participated in specialty retailer Christopher & Banks inaugural Amazing Women contest.

    The operator of 543 stores recently named the winners of its Amazing Women contest that was launched in April in conjunction with Mother’s Day. More than 1,700 nominations were received in the contest that sought to celebrate the women who raise, cheer on, care for and support future generations.

  • Jana Partners discloses 9.9% stake in PetSmart; asks retailer to explore options

    New York -- Activist investor Jana Partners LLC disclosed it has acquired a 9.9% stake in PetSmart, according to a regulatory filing, and plans to ask the retailer to explore various options, including a sale. Jana, $10 billion firm hedge firm run by Barry Rosenstein, has a reputation for pushing corporate managements to make changes.

  • Hhgregg teams up with the Colts to honor local veteran

    To honor a decorated Indianapolis veteran and dedicated volunteer with Wish for Our Heroes, Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee and tight end Coby Fleener joined forces with Hhgregg.

    Together, the group transformed the home of retired US Army veteran Erich Orrick, a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient.

  • Gilt adds Adrianne Shapira to board

    Online retailer Gilt has added Adrianne Shapira to the company's board of directors.

    Shapira has served as the CFO of David Yurman, a fine jewelry luxury brand, since 2012. She is a member of the executive committee that looks to build upon David Yurman's successes by capitalizing on future channel, category and geographic growth.

  • Hobby Lobby wins ruling in Supreme Court

    New York -- Retail chain Hobby Lobby was triumphant In a 5-4 ruling by the Supreme Court on Monday in which the court ruled that the federal government cannot force privately held corporations to provide forms of contraceptive coverage that violate the religious beliefs of their owners. The ruling means that private companies can opt out of the Affordable Health Care Act’s contraception mandate.
