Former P&G CEO McDonald to lead VA

6/30/2014

Bob McDonald ran the world’s largest CPG company as CEO of Procter & Gamble and now he is returning to public service as head of the embattled Veteran’s Administration.

President Barack Obama nominated McDonald for the position of Secretary of Veterans Affairs on Monday. He is a a graduate of West Point who served in the U.S. Army for five years and held the rank of captain before joining Procter & Gamble. He fills a position at the VA previously held by Eric Shinseki after a bi-partisan outcry over his leadership and the agency’s failings when it came to the delivery of health care to veterans forced his resignation.

McDonald may have led the world’s largest CPG company with 120,000 employees and products sold in 180 countries worldwide, but the VA is a massive bureaucracy with 300,000 employees and a culture that is sure to be unlike what McDonald was accustomed to at P&G.
