  • REI veteran is new Bartell Drugs president

    Bartell Drugs has selected former REI executive Brian Unmacht as its new president.

    Prior to joining the 63-store pharmacy retailer, Unmacht served as REI’s EVP and CEO. He has served as a member of Bartell Drugs’ board of directors since 2011.

    Bartell Drugs’ chairman and CEO George D. Bartell said that filling the position at the family-owned company supports future succession plans as it celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2015. Bartell Drugs is the oldest and largest family-owned drug store chain in the United States.

    Karenann Terrell, Walmart’s Chief Information Officer, is among a distinguished group of female executives singled out by Retailing Today sister publication Chain Store Age as The Top 10 Women in Tech.

  • Five Below names merchandising head

    Philadelphia -- Teen value retailer Five Below has named Michael Romanko as its executive VP of merchandising, charged with overseeing merchandising strategy and operations. Romanko, who officially assumes the role on Jan. 19, will report to president Joel Anderson.

  • La-Z-Boy names Pepsico exec new chief HR officer

    Monroe, Mich. - La-Z-Boy Inc. has appointed Barbara J. Runyon as chief human resources officer. She will join the company on Feb. 2 and provide leadership and oversight for talent management, employee engagement, workforce development, and compensation and benefits.

    Runyon joins La-Z-Boy from PepsiCo/The Pepsi Bottling Group, where she spent 14 years in various HR positions of increasing responsibility. Most recently, she served as senior director of HR for the company's Midwest region.

  • CVS offers prescription labels for visually impaired

    Woonsocket, R.I. - CVS Health now offers the ScriptAbility prescription accessibility system through its mail service pharmacy to CVS/Caremark members who are blind or visually impaired. The system includes ScripTalk talking prescription labels, as well as braille and large print labels.  

  • Abercrombie & Fitch settlement approved

    New York -- A federal judge recommended approval of a revised settlement of a lawsuit that challenged the pay of former Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Michael Jeffries. The action comes three months after a different judge rejected a settlement that appeared to offer few benefits to the company and “broadly released shareholders' claims," Reuters reported.

  • NRF gives $100K to next generation of retailers

    The best and the brightest college students interested in retail careers will receive $100,000 in grants from the National Retail Federation (NRF) on Jan. 11 in New York City.

    The NRF Foundation will award the scholarships to 24 outstanding students as a part of its Next Generation Scholarship program.

    This year students will also be awarded a travel scholarship to attend NRF’s Big Show and NRF Student Program in New York City.
