    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Beginning in mid-March, the AARP/Walgreens Wellness Tour will embark on another 10-month tour to provide an expected $14 million worth of free health tests.

  • CVS Caremark's charitable arm donates funds to support relief efforts in Japan

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — The CVS Caremark Charitable Trust has announced the donation of $100,000 to the American Red Cross in support of relief efforts under way in Japan following last week's tragic earthquake and tsunami, with a potential total donation of up to $300,000 through the matching of CVS Caremark employee donations.

  • Sears Holdings awarded top EPA honor

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -- Sears Holdings announced that it has been named the 2011 Energy Star Partner of the Year (Product Retailer Category) by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This is the second year running that Sears Holdings has been awarded this honor for empowering its customers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and through its numerous initiatives focusing on educating customers about energy-efficient products.

  • Meijer invests in Ohio and Michigan

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The economic downturn has been especially tough on the Midwestern region of the United States, but now Meijer is bringing some renewed hope to the area with news it will invest more than $75 million in a major remodel project for stores in Michigan and Ohio, with eight Michigan stores benefiting from this new initiative. The announcement was made by Hank Meijer, co-chairman and CEO of the company.

  • Seventh Generation revolutionizes laundry category

    NEW YORK — Seventh Generation has developed an ultra-concentrated liquid laundry detergent that is available in a 100% compostable bottle.

    The company said the entire packaging system (fiber bottle, pouch, spout, cap) for its Natural 4x laundry detergent uses 66% less plastic than a typical 100-oz. 2x laundry bottle. Seventh Generation's Natural 4x laundry detergent, a nontoxic, biodegradable formula, is available in a 50-oz. (66 loads) size and two scents: Free and Clear, and Geranium Blossoms and Vanilla.

  • EPA honors Lowe's with sustainable retailer award

    Moorseville, N.C. -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named Lowe’s winner of the Energy Star Sustained Excellence Award in Retail for the second consecutive year. The 2011 award recognizes Lowe’s long-standing leadership as a retailer of energy-efficient products and will be presented to the company at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on April 12.

  • Whirlpool earns Energy Star accolades

    BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- Whirlpool announced that it was awarded  the 2011 Energy Star Sustained Excellence award by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The award recognizes the company's leadership in offering consumers energy and water efficiency through its leading home appliance brands, Whirlpool reported. According to the company, Whirlpool was the only appliance manufacturer to receive the Sustained Excellence award, the highest possible Energy Star award. This is the company's 12th top Energy Star award and sixth consecutive Sustained Excellence win.

  • Rite Aid implements medication disposal program

    Camp Hill, Pa. — Rite Aid is working with Sharps Compliance to help customers dispose of unused medications, the retailer said Monday.

    Customers can buy a Sharps Compliance medication-disposal envelope at a Rite Aid store for $3.99, place unused prescription or over-the-counter drugs inside and then send it via the U.S. Postal Service to the incinerator.
