  • Fresh & Easy to open two stores in San Francisco this summer

    SAN FRANCISCO — Fresh & Easy has announced the opening dates for its first two stores in San Francisco.

    The retail chain said that the stores, which will open on June 22 and Aug. 24, will create more than 50 jobs. What's more, Fresh & Easy also invites area residents to nominate a local, nonprofit organization to receive a $1,000 donation for each new store opening. Based on the nominations from the neighborhood, store employees will select the winning charity.

  • Target donates $50K to tornado relief in Minnesota

    Minneapolis — Target announced its donation of funds and product to support tornado relief efforts in Minnesota.

    The funds, which totaled $50,000, will help the efforts of the American Red Cross and Salvation Army.

    “We take seriously our responsibility as a retailer, employer and community member to aid in times of need,” Target chairman, president and CEO Gregg Steinhafel said. “Before and after a crisis, communities can count on Target.”

  • Syms urged by shareholder to stem retail losses, sell real estate

    New York City -- Discount retailer Syms Corp. was urged by a shareholder to stem losses in its clothing business and sell some of the real estate holdings accumulated by late founder Sy Syms.

    According to a Friday report by Bloomberg, Capstone Equities Capital Management LP sent a letter to Syms directors and CEO Marcy Syms on Thursday advocating asset sales, share buybacks and other steps to “enhance shareholder value.” 

  • City of Frisco, Texas to partner with Forest City and Ernest Mahard Jr. to develop mixed-use project

    Frisco, Texas -- The City of Frisco executed a Memorandum of Understanding with Forest City Development and its partner, Ernest Mahard Jr. to develop a 320-acre mixed-use development on the southwest corner of the Dallas North Tollway and U.S. Highway 380. 

    Bounded by Virginia Parkway and County Road 26, this development will encompass retail, residential, office, entertainment, hospitality, municipal parks and services.

  • Men’s Wearhouse treats its 14,000-plus employees to pizza

    Houston -- The Men's Wearhouse surprised more than 14,000 employees with pizza delivery to every store across North America. To thank employees for their hard work and dedication, more than 42,400 slices of pizza were delivered to more than 1,200 Men’s Wearhouse, MW Cleaners, and K&G Fashion Superstore locations in the United States and Moores Clothing for Men stores in Canada.

  • Save the date for education event

    Target is among the key sponsors of a Kids in Need Foundation event slated for this fall in Minneapolis. The company, along with fellow Minneapolis-based supplier 3M, is supporting the organization’s annual cocktail reception and fundraising dinner to be held September 21 at The Depot from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The guest speaker at the event is former OfficeMax chairman and CEO Sam Duncan.
