  • Phillips Edison appoints Farrell Donnelley Assistant General Counsel

    Phillips Edison & Company announced the appointment of Beth Farrell Donnelly as VP and assistant general counsel. She will work with senior VP and General Counsel Tanya Brady to provide legal advice on all aspects of the company’s business.  
  • West Elm opens store in a former post office

    Home furnishings retailer West Elm will open a new store in downtown Reno, Nevada, on Aug. 11.    The 11,000-sq.-ft. store is located on the main floor of the former U.S. Post Office building, which has been transformed into The Basement marketplace, an underground venue with a mission to create a multi-use incubator space of both retail and food vendors celebrating handicraft.   
  • Veteran Walmart executive dies at 82

    Influential and longtime Walmart executive Don Soderquist died after complications related to heart surgery. He was 82.   Soderquist joined Walmart in 1980 as executive VP of administration and logistics and was a driving force behind the company’s growth. From 1988 to 1999, he served as vice chairman and COO. He retired in 2000 and remained on the Walmart board until 2002.   
  • Walmart asks suppliers to remove 8 chemicals from products

    Walmart has asked suppliers to remove "high priority chemicals," such as formaldehyde and triclosan, from their products as part of an effort to eliminate controversial chemicals from household goods.

  • Rachael Ray, Rite Aid announce $25K donation to Detroit's Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program

    The Rite Aid Foundation's KidCents program announced Wednesday a $25,000 donation to the Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program, a Detroit-based nonprofit that empowers Detroit youth to be positive and productive members of society through education, athletics, mentorship and intervention.  
  • Passing of the baton at J.C. Penney

    Some three years after he returned to save J.C. Penney, industry veteran Myron E. (Mike) Ullman will retire from the company on Aug. 1.    Ullman is passing the reins of chairman of Penney’s board of directors to current CEO Marvin R. Ellison. The succession is in accordance with a transition plan the company outlined in 2014.  
  • Target powers up with wind energy partnership

    Target Corp. has expanded its commitment to renewable energy.    The discounter kicked off its first wind power partnership, buying a portion of the energy produced by a Starwood Energy Group wind farm to offset 100% of the energy used at 60 Target stores throughout Texas.
