  • Dr Pepper Snapple Group’s corporate social responsibility report card

    Dr Pepper Snapple Group met or exceeded several of its corporate social responsibility goals over the past year, according to the 2014 report the company released Friday.
     
    One of the goals it reports meeting was reducing its use of PET, a polymer used in beverage bottles. DPS conserved about 60.7 million pounds since 2007 by redesigning packaging and upgrading almost 70,000 older-model coolers and vending machines.

  • Report: Starbucks eases scheduling rules

    Seattle – Starbucks Corp. is reportedly changing its scheduling rules to prevent employees from having to work an opening shift after a closing shift the previous evening. According to Bloomberg, Starbucks is altering its scheduling policy following a report in the New York Times about a Starbucks barista who had difficulty managing her schedule with her childcare needs.

  • Newell Rubbermaid seeks new financial chief

    Newell Rubbermaid’s EVP and CFO Doug Martin has resigned from the company effective August 31, to be EVP and CFO at Spectrum Brands, effective September 1.

    Newell Rubbermaid has retained Spencer Stuart to help the company search for a new CFO. While that search is underway, John Stipancich, the company's EVP, general counsel, corporate secretary and EMEA leader, has been tapped as interim financial chief.

  • Dollar General appoints former Ahold exec to board

    Goodlettsville, Tenn. - Paula A. Price, senior lecturer at Harvard Business School and former CFO of Ahold USA, has been named to the Dollar General board of directors effective Aug. 26. The election of Price to Dollar General’s board will bring the total number of directors to eight.

  • New Walmart fact-checking service launched

    Walmart’s opponents employed a new tactic this week by launching a repository of negativity under the auspices of The Center for Media and Democracy.

  • BJ's Wholesale Club partners with 215 schools for 19th year

    Westborough, Mass. -- BJ's Wholesale Club announced partnerships with 215 schools through the organization's Adopt-A-School program. At the beginning of each school year, every BJ's Wholesale Club and Distribution Center partners with a local school to help enhance existing curriculum.

    Schools participating in BJ's Adopt-A-School Program receive a one-time, $500 donation, which goes toward discretionary programs, such as field trips and special events, reading programs or other educational needs. The schools also receive a complimentary BJ's Membership.

  • GNC ups share repurchase authorization to $500 million

    Pittsburgh -- GNC Holdings, Inc.’s board of directors has authorized a multi-year program to repurchase up to an aggregate $500 million of the company's Class A common stock. The authorization is effective immediately and replaces GNC’s previous authorization, which had approximately $250 million remaining.  

    The repurchases are expected to take place over the next 24 months.

  • More executive changes at Belk

    Jan Clevenger has been named EVP and general merchandising manager of men’s, home and kids, reporting to newly named president and chief merchandising officer David Zant.

    Clevenger has served as chair of the Belk Western Division based in Birmingham, Alabama, since March 2008. She began her retail career with Macy's in 1984 in store management before becoming a buyer for men’s and center core.
