Wegmans to enter two new states in 2025
Wegmans Food Markets is expanding its footprint in new and existing markets.
The Rochester, N.Y.-based grocer announced three new locations in 2025, including its first-ever store on New York’s Long Island, in the town of Lake Grove. It will also open its first store in Connecticut, in Norwalk, along with its ninth location in Maryland, in Rockville. The stores are all slated to open before the end of 2025.
Of the three new locations, the first to open — on Feb. 26 — will be the Lake Grove location on Long Island. The 101,000-sq.-ft. store will include a Market Cafe featuring fresh sushi, poke bowls, pizza, chef-created salads, sandwiches, hot self-serve bars with chicken wings, Asian foods and homestyle favorites as well as a made-to-order old fashion sub shop.
The store will feature 14 full-service registers and 14 self-checkout registers. It will also have a separate cafe checkout area is also provided for restaurant foods to-go or dine-in customers.
Opening in summer 2025, the 92,000-sq.-ft. store in Norwalk, Conn., will include 13 full service and 15 self-checkout registers, and many of the same Market Cafe features as the Lake Grove site. It will also have a two-story parking deck with 551 parking spaces and a bridge into a second mezzanine level of the food market.
The parking garage will include solar canopies on the second level of the parking deck and 12 Tesla charging stations on the lower level.
The final store opening in 2025 will be in Rockville, Md. The 80,000-sq.-ft. store is part of the new Twinbrook Quarter Community and includes two levels of parking below the store.
The three new stores will feature all of Wegmans’ traditional departments, including restaurant foods (sushi, pizza, chef-made salads, and sandwiches), an abundant produce department, and a wide variety of seafood, meat, bakery, deli, and cheese options.
Family-owned Wegmans has more than 53,000 employees, with 111 stores along the East Coast.
