Walmart, Target among competitors with Amazon spring event

Amazon Big Spring Sale
The Amazon Big Spring Sale has some serious counterprogramming.

The Amazon Big Spring Sale is generating seasonal discount extravaganzas among some big-name rivals.

Amazon is hosting its first-ever Big Spring Sale through Monday, March 25. According to Amazon, this event will provide customers the "chance to shop great deals on seasonally relevant items. The event features price reductions as high as 60% in categories including electronics, lawn and garden, cleaning and organizing products, sports and fitness, kitchen appliances and cookware, beauty and haircare, and spring fashion, as well as its own devices.

While their spring sales have not been heavily publicized or promoted, several other retailers are offering their own seasonal events coinciding with the Big Spring Sale (as previously predicted by Chain Store Age).

For example, Walmart is running its “Super Spring Savings Week” online and in-store, promising thousands of new discount product drops on its e-commerce site. Discounts include limited-time online flash deals, as well as daily deals and price reductions throughout the duration of the event on products in categories including patio & garden, electronics, home, kitchen essentials, and items for the Easter holiday.

Similar to Amazon, which is not requiring membership in its Prime subscription service to participate in the Big Spring Sale, Walmart is not restricting Super Spring Savings Week to members of Walmart+.

Meanwhile, Target is offering its own seasonal blockbuster, simply called “The Spring Sale,” with discounts of up to 50% off home & patio items and kids’ toys and games, as well as up to 20% off seasonal warm-weather clothing and swimwear. The Spring Sale is also open to all shoppers and not just Target Circle loyalty members.

In an email to Chain Store Age, online technology product retailer Newegg Commerce Inc. said it is running an event it calls the Super Spring Sale through Monday, March 25. Deals are offered on an assortment of computers, laptops, components and appliances for up to 60% off.

And it is not being promoted as a spring event, but consumer electronics retailer Best Buy is offering deals exclusively for members of its My Best Buy Plus and My Best Buy Total loyalty programs through Sunday, March 24.

Home-oriented retailers such as Home Depot, Lowe’s and Wayfair are also all running seasonal spring sales, but they all have been running spring discount promotions for at least the past several years to take advantage of consumers engaging in spring renovation, decoration and cleaning projects.
