Walmart offers rewards program for Walmart+ members

Walmart Rewards
Walmart is launching a new perk for Walmart+ members.

The latest perk for Walmart’s paid membership program provides the opportunity to earn additional savings.

Members of the Walmart+ program now have access to Walmart Rewards, which enables them to earn additional savings toward future Walmart purchases with each transaction.

As Walmart+ members search for products on Walmart.com or the Walmart app, they will see an option to add rewards onto the regular prices of select items across the discount giant’s assortment.

Members can bank their digital rewards in the Walmart wallet in the app and online, and use them to save on future purchases in stores and online.

If shopping in-store, Walmart+ members can redeem their rewards by scanning the Walmart Pay QR code and tapping “Use Walmart Rewards” to deduct the balance from their bill. If shopping online, they can do this when they check out.

These new item-specific rewards, which Walmart provides using the Ibotta Performance Network, are available exclusively for Walmart+ members, starting Wednesday, Aug. 24. Walmart says it is focusing first on providing rewards on items purchased digitally or in-store by members. Over time, the retailer says it will continue to expand the program to deliver new ways to earn rewards.

Rewards are free for Walmart+ members and do not require them to sign up, use paper coupons, or download an additional app. Members can sign into their Walmart+ account the Walmart site or app, clip eligible rewards, purchase eligible items, and earn rewards.

Walmart adds perks to Walmart+

Walmart has been bulking up Walmart+, initially launched in September 2020, with several different promotions in the past year. Members of the Walmart+ program recently began receiving free access to the “essential” tier of the Paramount+ subscription streaming offering.

In March 2022, Walmart made the program available free to all full- and part-time Walmart U.S. associates working in the company’s stores, distribution centers and fulfillment centers. This added nearly 1.6 million members to the offering.

At that time, the company also began also collaborating with the Spotify music streaming platform to offer a special promotion for Walmart+ members. New and existing Walmart+ members can receive six months of the Spotify Premium content streaming service for free.

Walmart also extended free Walmart+ membership to U.S. associates following a promotion for American Express Platinum cardholders it launched in October 2021. In addition, in July 2022, the discount giant began making its InHome delivery service, which delivers groceries straight to a customer’s kitchen or garage fridge, available as an optional add-on within the Walmart+ program for $10 less than previous annual pricing when Walmart+ and InHome were separate memberships.

And during the month of August, eligible consumers who spend $300 or more on a single purchase with the buy now pay later (BNPL) solution Affirm at Walmart, either in-store or online, will receive a free 90-day Walmart+ membership.

Members of the Walmart+ program, which normally costs $12.95 a month/$98 a year, receive exclusive benefits such as free shipping with no order minimum, free delivery from stores, and discounted gas prices.

“We’ve always been committed to saving members time and money, and with Walmart Rewards, we’re rewarding members for shopping with us through added savings on the items they want and need most,” Chris Cracchiolo, senior VP and GM, Walmart+, said in a corporate blog post announcing the new program. It’s a little more that adds up to a lot.”
