Tractor Supply upping store growth in 2026
Tractor Supply Company remains in expansion mode.
The nation’s largest rural lifestyle retailer reported record sales for its third quarter, during which it opened 29 stores. It's on track to open a total of 90 locations for the full year. Tractor Supply is ramping up its growth next year, with plans to open 100 new stores, CFO Kurt Barton said during the company’s third-quarter earnings call.
“This increase reflects our continued confidence in the strength of our new store economics and the long-term growth potential of our model,” Barton told analysts. “We anticipate a consistent pace of openings throughout the year.”
While Tractor Supply sees growth across the entire United States, most of the expansion will continue to be in the West, with the growth supported by a new distribution center in Idaho, chief stores officer John Orduso said during the call.
Orduso told analysts that the company’s new store productivity numbers of late “continue to show that our new store productivity is running strong and consistent.”
“New stores are performing above pro forma,” he added. “Our pipeline is strong.”
For its third quarter, ended Sept. 27, Tractor Supply reported that its net sales increased 7.2% to a record $3.72 billion. Comparable store sales increased 3.9%, with comparable average transaction growth of 2.7%. Net income increased 7.4% to $259.3 million from $241.5 million.
"The Tractor Supply team delivered a strong third quarter,” said Hal Lawton, president and CEO. “This performance was driven by ongoing share gains, agile execution through an extended summer season and healthy transaction growth. “As we enter the fourth quarter, we are well positioned for the fall and winter seasons, operating with discipline and controlling what we can control.”
As of Sept. 27, the company operated 2,364 Tractor Supply stores in 49 states and 206 Petsense by Tractor Supply stores in 23 states.
