Upon completion, Medley will feature 200,000 sq.-ft. of retail, restaurant, and entertainment space.

The Mark Toro-led retail real estate team that brought to life the award-winning Avalon center in Alpharetta firm has acquired the Johns Creek, Ga., site for the 43-acre mixed-use development, on which it expects to break ground later this year.

Located at the intersection of Johns Creek Parkway and McGinnis Ferry Road, the property contained two office buildings and a large area of surface parking. Demolition of one of the office buildings was completed last fall. TDC intends to incorporate the second building into Medley’s master plan by stripping out the ground floor to make way for retail and restaurant space, while renovating the office space above.

Upon completion, Medley will feature 200,000 sq.-ft. of retail, restaurant, and entertainment space and 900 residential units comprised of townhomes and apartments. The project will include 110,000 sq.-ft. of office space, as well as a central greenspace that will host events and gatherings for the community.

"Medley represents the radical reimagining of a dying suburban office park into a dense, walkable, mixed-use community,” said Toro, principal and chief vision officer of TDC. “We have been hard at work curating an extraordinary retail, dining and entertainment experience for Medley, and we look forward to announcing a wave of new tenants soon.”

Last spring, TDC announced the first retail tenants for Medley: Ford Fry’s Little Rey, CRÚ Food & Wine Bar, Fadó Irish Pub, Summit Coffee, Lily Sushi Bar, Knuckies Hoagies, Cookie Fix, Sugarcoat Beauty, BODY20, and AYA Medical Spa.

Johns Creek, a fast-growing suburban town 10 miles southeast of Alpharetta, has received approval to more than double its hospital and medical office space over the next 20 years. A Boston Scientific Life Sciences facility with more than 300 employees will be built adjacent to Medley in the town center.

TDC is also at work on its second project, a mixed-use community called Ovation on the campus of Mars Petcare’s headquarters in the Nashville suburb of Franklin, Tenn.
