  • Safeway makes website more accessible for visually impaired

    Pleasanton, Calif. -- Safeway has made its online grocery shopping website more accessible and usable for Safeway shoppers with visual impairments.

    Safeway collaborated with its visually impaired customers to make the necessary changes to its website. As such, the company has adopted the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.0 level AA as its accessibility standard.

  • Wal-Mart names India president

    Bentonville, Ark. – Wal-Mart Stores has named a new president and CEO of its Indian operations. According to multiple media reports, Krish Iyler, who has been a senior VP in Wal-Mart’s international unit since January 2013, will assume his new role on Jan. 20. 2014.

  • Restoration Hardware co-CEO resigning to head up Lucky Brand

    New York -- Restoration Hardware Holdings said that co-CEO Carlos Alberini is resigning, effective January 31, to become the chairman and chief executive of Lucky Brand Jeans. The move comes just days after Fifth & Pacific Cos. entered into an agreement to sell Lucky Brand to private equity firm Leonard Green & Partners.

  • Report: Penney cutting back on Joe Fresh, Michael Graves and Martha Stewart

    New York -- J.C. Penny will eliminate the jcp menswear brand and reduce the assortments in its Joe Fresh, Michael Graves and Martha Stewart lines, Reuters reported. All four brands were introduced by former CEO Ron Johnson. Penney plans to use the resulting space to emphasize its exclusive private-label brands.

  • Report: MasterCard expanding headquarters; to open tech lab in NYC

    New York -- MasterCard plans to expand its world headquarters in Purchase, N.Y.,  suburbs and open a technology lab in Manhattan, the Associated Press reported.

    The report said that MasterCard is investing several million dollars to open a new mobile e-commerce technology lab in New York City, which will lead to 122 new research and development and software jobs in Manhattan.

     

  • B&N offers free holiday shipping, instant electronic gifts

    New York – Barnes & Noble is offering free shipping on any Nook e-reader device purchased online by 11 a.m. ET on Dec.23, with delivery guaranteed by Dec. 24. In addition, Barnes & Noble loyalty members get free express shipping on orders placed online by Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. ET, with guaranteed delivery by Dec. 24.

  • Survey: Many homeowners use smartphones for remodeling

    Sunnyvale, Calif. -- More than one out of four (27%) homeowners reported using their smartphones in the past for a variety of tasks to help with remodeling their homes. According to a new survey of U.S. homeowners by homeowner mobile app provider Planese, the percentage jumped to 40% when they were asked if they planned to use smartphones for future remodeling projects.

  • Vitamin Shoppe files trademark suit

    North Bergen, N.J. – Vitamin Shoppe has announced that on Nov. 21, 2013 it filed suit against law firm Seeger Weiss LLP in New York federal court. Vitamin Shoppe argues that Seeger Weiss is infringing on the company's trademarks on a website designed to solicit plaintiffs for a class-action lawsuit over alleged misrepresentations related to its Bodytech protein supplements and is being harmed by unauthorized use of its trademarks.
