  • David’s Bridal CEO steps down; replaced by former Gap head

    Photo: Paul Pressler   The CEO of David's Bridal is out after three years on the job.    The specialty retailer said Pam Wallack has left the company, but gave no reason for her departure, the Associated Press reported. Wallack will be replaced by David’s Bridal chairman and former Gap Inc. head Paul Pressler, who once worked with her at Gap.          
  • Target’s top marketing exec heading off to Uber

    Target Corp. is losing its top marketing honcho just months before it enters its most important selling season.   Jeff Jones, executive VP, chief marketing officer at Target, will depart the discounter effective Sept. 9. Jones will be joining Uber as president, ridesharing. He will responsible for Uber’s operations, marketing and customer support globally.   Target is conducting an external and internal search for Jones' replacement.  
  • Fred’s names retail veteran as CEO

    Photo: Michael K. Bloom   Fred’s announced it has promoted COO Michael K. Bloom to chief executive, effective Aug. 29.      Bloom succeeds CEO Jerry A. Shore, who became chief executive in October 2014 and intends to retire in February.   
  • Fred's creates new COO position

    Fred’s Inc. named Craig Barnes, executive VP of supply chain, global and domestic logistics, to the newly created role of COO — front store.    In his new role, Barnes will be responsible for merchandising, marketing, supply chain, store operations and real estate, and will report directly to CEO Michael K. Bloom.    
  • Toys ‘R’ Us promotes chief merchant to president

    Toys "R" Us announced the appointment of Melanie Teed-Murch as president, Toys "R" Us, Canada, effective Sept. 1.       Teed-Murch joined the retailer in 1996 as a store manager for Toys "R" Us in Kitchener, Ontario. She went on to hold a variety of senior leadership, merchandising and operational roles with increasing responsibility, including her most recent position as Canada's chief merchant.  
  • New finance chief for Michaels

    The Michaels Companies, named Denise Paulonis as executive VP – CFO, effective Aug. 29. The appointment is part of the retailer’s previously announced CFO succession plan.   Paulonis, currently senior VP – finance, succeeds Chuck Sonsteby, vice chairman and CFO. He will continue to serve as vice chairman and will retain executive responsibility for the growth and integration of Lamrite West and the management of Aaron Brothers stores.    
  • Office Depot on the hunt for a CEO

    Office Depot has joined Staples in the search for a new chief executive.   Office Depot announced Monday that Roland Smith plans to retire as CEO of the company.  In June, Staples CEO Ron Sargent stepped down and the chain is still looking for a successor. The resignations come several months after the merger between the two retailers was dropped over antitrust concerns.  
  • Macy’s nabs Toys ‘R’ Us exec as new CMO

    Marketing in the department store arena may be new for Rich Lennox, but he’s got plenty of retail marketing experience under his belt. The CMO for Toys “R” Us, who also served in the same capacity for Zales Corp., will take the marketing reins of Macy’s Inc., effective Sept. 15.   Lennox, 51, succeeds Martine Reardon, who left Macy’s in May. He will lead a branding and marketing strategy charge across all channels, reporting to president Jeff Gennette.
