  • Gas and convenience store chain’s senior VP steps down

    Murphy USA is losing its senior VP, retail operations.   Marn Cheng will resign from his position on April 30. During his 17-year tenure, Cheng has held various leadership roles within the operations team, including retail operations, fuel supply, ethanol production, customer and store support.   He is resigning for personal reasons, and plans to spend more time with family in both Malaysia and the United States, according to Murphy USA.  
  • Supermarket retailer taps 24-year-company veteran to head real estate

    A Publix Super Markets associate who started his career with the company as a part-time meat cutter has been named VP of real estate strategy.   Publix promoted Bob Balcerak to the top real estate post, effective April 3, 2017. As VP, he will oversee the selection of new sites and management of leased properties for Publix stores.     
  • Sporting goods retailer taps Walmart exec as COO

    Sportsman's Warehouse has named Jon Barker president and COO, effective March 31.   Barker, who holds 25 years of retail experience will direct the marketing, supply chain, operations, compliance and technology functions for Sportsman's Warehouse, and will also lead the expansion of the company's e-commerce business.   
  • Dunkin’ Brands begins hunt for new CFO

    The parent company of Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins announced that Paul Carbone, CFO, is leaving the company effective April 21, 2017.  
  • Macy’s Gennette takes the helm

    The baton has officially been passed at Macy’s.   Jeff Gennette has been named as the department store chain’s new CEO, succeeding Terry Lundgren, who will continue as executive chairman.   Gennette, who has served as Macy’s president since 2014, is Lundgren’s handpicked successor. Prior to becoming president, he was appointed Macy’s chief merchandising officer in 2009.  
  • Urban apparel retailer on hunt for a new CEO

    The chief executive of Citi Trends has resigned after two years on the job.   The value-oriented fashion retailer said that Jason Mazzola has resigned as CEO and director “to pursue another opportunity.” It named retail veteran Bruce Smith, currently Citi Trends COO and CFO, as acting chief executive officer, and Ed Anderson as executive chairman, effective immediately.    
  • Longtime Kroger vet jumps ship for Target

    A 30-year veteran of The Kroger Co. has joined Target Corp. to head up the discounter’s struggling grocery business.    Target has appointed Jeff Burt as senior VP, grocery, fresh food and beverage, effective April 10.   
  • Kroger names new Fred Meyer Stores president

    That was fast.   The Kroger Co. wasted no time in naming a replacement for Jeff Burt, president of Fred Meyer Stores, who resigned on Monday, March 20, to head up Target’s grocery business.    Kroger tapped company veteran Joe Grieshaber as president of Fred Meyer Stores, immediately.
