Target Corp. is undertaking its most ambitious store remodeling campaign in more than a decade, updating 130-plus locations this year, along with opening 30 new stores and making critical supply chain technology upgrades.

Target stores across the country — including in Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas and Virginia — are expected to undergo remodels this year. In many locations, the remodel includes an expanded dry grocery selection, as well as everyday essentials and pantry staples. (Some locations will also get larger fresh and frozen food sections.) And in select locations, Target is introducing natural refrigeration systems, more efficient lighting and HVAC systems that not only help reduce emissions but also energy costs.

Other remodel features include:

Modern décor and fixtures, and specialty LED lighting;

New signage to navigate the store easily and quickly;

Updated spaces and expanded services to support order pickup, drive up and exchanges & returns, along with updates to traditional checkout and express self-checkout lanes to improve their flow and convenience.

Engaging merchandise displays throughout the store — including in apparel and accessories, beauty and home — to highlight Target’s “elevated style;” and

Modernized guest amenities, including restrooms along with designated nursing spaces.

In select locations, Target is introducing natural refrigeration systems, more efficient lighting and HVAC systems that not only help reduce emissions but also energy costs.

The remodel effort is happening as Target is upgrading up the assortment in key categories across the sales floor, including health and wellness, beauty, baby, home and women’s style, with curated items in expanded, dedicated spaces.

“These investments are all about making Target an even easier, more inspiring and friendly place to shop,” said Laurie Mahowald, senior VP, Target Properties. “We’re evolving our stores in ways that reflect how guests shop today — from more intuitive layouts to expanded assortments — while also strengthening the role our stores play in fulfillment and our long-term growth.”
