Fast-casual restaurant brand continues aggressive growth

By Marianne Wilson - 11/21/2018
Mod Pizza continues to expand at a record pace.

The fast-casual chain, known for its artisan-style pizza and “people-first” culture, opened its 400th location, in Kalispell, Montana, on Friday, Nov. 23. The opening comes as Mod is celebrating its 10th birthday.

Mod, a 2017 winner of Chain Store Age’s Breakout Retailers Awards https://www.chainstoreage.com/news/csa-honors-breakout-retailer-award-winners/, was founded in 2008 with a “people-first” mission. It is well known for its support of local non-profits and also for its employee-centric culture. In addition to above industry-average pay and benefits and hiring people with special needs, Mod maintains an emergency fund that provides financial assistance to employees in times of expected need.

“Even though we’ve experienced a lot of growth, our purpose remains unchanged – Mod exists to serve people and we do this by Spreading MODness,” said Ally Svenson, Mod’s co-founder and “chief purpose officer.” “We’ve learned that meaningful impacts can be made in many ways – from hiring people with barriers to employment to tackling food insecurity in our communities.”

Mod is committed to helping tackle childhood hunger in the U.S. through its annual “Spreading MODness” Week. From November 20 - 24, the company donates $1 from every Mod or mega-size pizza sold at its company-owned locations to help create a meal for a hungry child. In collaboration with Generosity Feeds, a non-profit committed to ending childhood hunger, Mod provides funding for meal packing events across the country.”

“When the staggering statistics of childhood hunger came to our attention a few years ago, we knew we needed to help and this collaboration is so powerful – a non-profit with the head of a business, and a business with the heart of a non-profit,” said Svenson. “The best birthday gift we can receive is the chance to bring Mod’s purpose to life, celebrating how the platform of business can truly change lives.”
