Stadiums, colleges continue deploying Amazon ‘Just Walk Out’ platform
Amazon’s Just Walk Out frictionless shopping technology is opening 14 new NFL stadium stores and at eight new colleges and universities this fall.
Based on generative AI technology, the Just Walk Out frictionless shopping platform enables customers to take what they want without having to stop to check out, with the experience made possible by computer vision, sensor fusion and deep learning technology that detects what customers take from or return to the shelves.
In addition, an RFID-enabled version of the solution initially released in September 2023 extends the Just Walk Out model to softlines by applying a unique RFID tag to all the items for sale, enabling automatic payment when the tags are read by RFID readers at an exit gate. The system even allows customers to wear their purchases out of the store.
Football stadiums score with Just Walk Out
Now, Just Walk Out technology is starting the 2024-25 NFL pro football season with the most new stores to open at NFL stadiums in a single season, including six new stores at Lumen Field in Seattle, seven stores at Commanders Field outside of Washington D.C., and the first store opening at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
This fall, Lumen Field will open the doors to five new traditional Just Walk Out concessions stores and one RFID-enabled Just Walk Out location selling merchandise such as clothing, hat and fan gear.
These openings bring the stadium’s total to 15 Just Walk Out locations, the most of any venue in the world. Just Walk Out stores first opened at Lumen Field in 2022.

The seven new Just Walk Out locations opening within the stadium, at Commanders Field is the most stores launched at once for a sports stadium. Just Walk Out technology also operates stores at NFL venues Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, and Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. With these new openings, Just Walk Out technology is available in more than 80 sports stadiums and arenas across the U.S., UK, Australia, and Canada.
Just Walk Out comes to campus
During the 2024-25 school year, more than 10 colleges and universities are opening new stores equipped with Just Walk Out, bringing the number of Just Walk Out stores on college campuses to more than 30 worldwide. New college stores are currently open on campuses including Emory University, University of Pittsburgh, University of Maine and University of Virginia. See a full list here.
