SpartanNash is offering on-demand and scheduled grocery delivery to shoppers across the Midwest.
The grocery retailer/distributor is partnering with Uber Technologies Inc. to make nearly 100 SpartanNash locations in the Midwest, including Family Fare, Martin’s Super Markets and D&W Fresh Market storefronts, available to shop through Uber and its Uber Eats delivery platform. The two companies will also extend this service to SpartanNash’s network of 2,100 independent grocery retail network members across the U.S.
In May 2022, SpartanNash launched a partnership with third-party delivery platform DoorDash to offer on-demand grocery delivery via the DoorDash marketplace app and website; as well as the DoorDash Drive white-label fulfillment platform. The company is also serving as a distributor of pantry and household items to select DoorDash DashMart online convenience storefronts.
SpartanNash is also providing this on-demand delivery partnership with Uber to its retail network members following its collaboration with Specialty Food Partners to offer a new hosted online platform called SpartanNash SpecialtyDirect. The platform enables the company’s grocer customers to seamlessly browse thousands of newly available product options, place orders, and pay consolidated invoices.
SpartanNash SpecialtyDirect is designed to make SpartanNash-supported independent grocery customers more competitive by increasing access to specialty, seasonal, and local items so they can tailor their product assortment to local shopper preferences.
“SpartanNash’s mission is to deliver the ingredients for a better life, and our partnership with Uber enables us to expand our reach within the communities we serve,” said SpartanNash CEO Tony Sarsam. “We will continue to aggressively pursue strategic relationships and investments making the grocery shopping experience more convenient, enjoyable and affordable for the people we serve.”
“SpartanNash’s focus on customer-centric innovation is core to our next stage of growth,” said SpartanNash executive VP and chief strategy and information officer Masiar Tayebi. “Partnering with Uber is an important marker of this, meeting our shoppers wherever they are – in stores or online. We are proud to expand our reach across the Uber and Uber Eats platform to new customers who are hungry for convenience delivered to their doorstep.”
“We’re thrilled to be joining forces with the team at SpartanNash to bring its corporately-owned banners onto the Uber Eats app, helping to expand their digital strategies and customer reach through technology,” said Christian Freese, Uber head of grocery and new verticals across the U.S. & Canada. “And we’re also incredibly excited that this partnership expands the reach of grocery delivery from Uber Eats to cities and towns across the north Midwest for the first time, thanks to these beloved grocery brands.”
The core businesses of SpartanNash include distributing grocery products to independent and chain retailers, its corporate-owned retail stores, and U.S. military commissaries and exchanges. The company also operates a fresh produce distribution network and the Our Family brand. SpartanNash serves customer locations in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, Europe, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Djibouti. The company owns 145 supermarkets—primarily under the banners of Family Fare, Martin's Super Markets, D&W Fresh Market, VG's Grocery, and Dan's Supermarket.
