San Franscisco 49ers stadium offers personalized team gear
The home field of the San Francisco 49ers pro football team is deploying retail customization and fan engagement technologies in its team store.
The official team San Francisco 49ers Team Store presented by Visa at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. (San Francisco Bay area) leverages the Avery Dennison Embelex custom branding solution to offer upgraded in-store personalization capabilities, with additional stations to provide personalized jerseys and newly introduced customizable Levi’s jackets.
The store will also incorporate Avery Dennison ordering systems to help create a seamless customization experience. The 49ers are rolling out in-store Embelex customization solutions under a multi-year agreement that builds upon an existing collaboration that makes Avery Dennison the cutting-edge embellishment partner of the 49ers.
That previously established partnership has integrated digital connectivity into select 49ers Fanatics merchandise in the form of smart embellishments and digital labels customers can design.
"From the start, the 49ers and Avery Dennison have worked together to deliver an elevated fan experience through innovative retail solutions," said Kevin Hilton, VP of corporate partnerships at the 49ers. "Together, we’ve leveraged Avery Dennison’s digital capabilities to create impactful business solutions for our fans, our organization, and our corporate partners - and we look forward to expanding those integrations in the future."
In addition, Avery Dennison has expanded its international rights with the 49ers. The extension now encompasses Mexico and the United Arab Emirates. Moving forward, Avery Dennison will support digital content, fan engagement and community impact initiatives across the U.S., Mexico and UAE.
"This partnership shows how far fan engagement has come," says Steve Mason, VP/GM commercial & Embelex, Avery Dennison. "It used to be about buying a jersey off the rack. Now, with on-demand customization and digital patches, fans can create something personal and interactive; a memento that connects them to a moment, a season, even the community around the team."
Avery Dennison has also provided RFID technology to help support rollouts of the Amazon Just Walk Out frictionless shopping platform, including the Amazon One palm-based payment solution, at several sports stadiums and arenas.

Combining Just Walk Out with Avery Denison RFID technology helps "address the unique nature of shopping for softlines," according to Amazon. With the system, all the items for sale have a unique RFID tag, designed to look similar to a standard apparel tag.
After the customer is done shopping, they leave the store through the designated exit gate by tapping their credit or debit card or hovering their palm over an Amazon One palm payment terminal. As they pass through the gate, the RFID tags are read by RFID readers and their payment card is automatically charged.
