Ross opened 99 new stores in 2022 across its two banners.
Ross Stores has completed its 2022 expansion plans.
The off-pricer retailer opened 28 Ross Dress for Less locations and 12 dd’s Discounts stores across 21 states in September and October. In addition to openings in California, Florida, and Texas, Ross strengthened its presence in Ohio while DD's bolstered its store base in Illinois.
The new outposts complete Ross’ growth plans for fiscal 2022, which called for the addition of 99 new stores.
"This fall, we opened our 2,000th store and continued to expand Ross and DD's footprints across our existing markets as well as in our newer states,” said Gregg McGillis, group executive VP, property development. “Looking ahead, we remain confident in our expansion plans and continue to see plenty of opportunity to grow to at least 2,900 Ross Dress for Less and 700 DD's Discount locations over time."
In August, Ross reported that its second-quarter sales were $4.6 billion, down 4% from the prior year period. In a statement, CEO Barbara Rentler cited “mounting inflationary pressures our customers faced as well as an increasingly promotional retail environment.”
Together, Ross Dress for Less and DD’s currently operate 2,019 off-price apparel and home fashion stores in 40 states, the District of Columbia, and Guam. There are 1,696 Ross stores in 40 states, the District of Columbia, and Guam, along with 323 DD’s in 21 states.
