Visit Peru at the mall in Short Hills, N.J.

6/18/2014

Short Hills, N.J. — Visit Machu Picchu in Peru at The Mall at Short Hills this summer. In partnership with PromPeru: The Commission on the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism, The Mall at Short Hills will feature Peru-themed promotions from June 13 through July 10.

Highlights include:

An interactive exhibit of Machu Picchu: The centerpiece of the effort is a 20 X 30 ft. exhibit of the fabled Machu Picchu, the Incan citadel named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a 2007 international Internet poll.

Theories abound about Machu Picchu and its 150 buildings — baths, houses, temples and sanctuaries. Many archeologists say Inca emperors and nobles relaxed there. Others call it a religious site, given its location amid mountains believed to be sacred by the Incas. Still others theorize that it may have been a prison, trading center, agricultural testing station or a women’s retreat.

Peruvian Music by Duo Andino: Enjoy special Peruvian musical performances by Duo Andino on June 13, 14, 20 and 21 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Peruvian Floral Displays:
The Flower Wall at Grand Court features fresh cut Peruvian flowers, in displays that will be changed weekly.

Nazca Lines: Nazca Lines are ancient geoglyphs in the Nazca Desert in southern Peru. Removing reddish pebbles on the ground uncovers whitish-grayish ground beneath. Peruvians have discovered that they can remove pebbles and make lines that form shapes such as hummingbirds, spiders, monkeys, fish, sharks, orcas and lizards.

At the mall, a display at the Ball Fountain on the lower level creates a Nazca Line with coins.
