The home field of the Texas Rangers Major League Baseball team is offering cashierless shopping with Amazon technology.

Two convenience stores equipped with Amazon’s Just Walk Out frictionless shopping platform and Amazon One palm-based payment solution are now open at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas (greater Dallas area). Customers visiting the Just Walk Out technology and Amazon One-enabled stores at Globe Life Field can insert their credit card or hover their palm at the entry gates to shop.

When shopping at Express Grill, anything a customer takes off a shelf is automatically added to their virtual cart, and anything they put back on the shelf comes out of their virtual cart. When customers are finished shopping they will be able to leave the store, and the credit card they inserted or linked to their Amazon One ID will be charged for the items they took.

The outlets, which are branded “Express Grill” and operated by foodservice and retail partner Delaware North, are located near sections 108 and 124. Offerings include cheeseburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, sausage and corn dogs, along with an assortment of packaged beer, spiked seltzers, soda, bottled water, chips, candies and sundries.

Delaware North employees will serve as greeters and provide in-store assistance as needed. Customers purchasing alcohol will be required to show their ID to a store attendant for age verification.

“We are excited to be collaborating with Amazon and Delaware North to add this new shopping experience to Globe Life Field,” said Rob Matwick, Texas Rangers executive VP, business operations. “The Express Grill locations will offer added convenience and quicker transactions – allowing fans to spend more time watching a Rangers game or event and less time standing in line.”

“The team at Globe Life Field recognizes that fans want a fast and frictionless way to get hot food, snacks and beverages – without having to wait in line and miss any of the action,” said Dilip Kumar, Vice President, AWS Applications. “We’re thrilled to work with Delaware North to bring our checkout-free technology and palm identity and payment service, Amazon One, to this state-of-the-art stadium to improve the fan experience.

“We are always looking to implement solutions that improve speed of service and convenience for customers,” said Casey Rapp, Delaware North’s general manager at Globe Life Field. “Delaware North has experienced the benefits of deploying Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology and Amazon One in many professional sports venues. What’s unique about our Globe Life Field locations is both are truly one-stop shops – with a menu of hot, prepared food to go along with snacks and beverages.”

Sports arenas implement Just Walk Out

A number of other facilities serving as the home of professional sports teams have opened stores featuring Amazon Just Walk Out. For example, Bridgestone Arena, the home arena of the Nashville Predators professional hockey team, recently started leveraging Amazon technology in a new cashierless convenience store.

Fiserv Arena, home arena of the Milwaukee Bucks professional basketball franchise, also recently began providing a checkout-free shopping option with Amazon technology. And Crypto.com Arena, the home stadium of the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers and L.A. Clippers, the NHL’s L.A. Kings and the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks, opened two new “grab and go” locations equipped with the technology in October 2022.
