Poshmark is enabling visual search via smartphone.
An online fashion resale marketplace is allowing shoppers to find items using a smartphone photo.
Poshmark is introducing Posh Lens, a new visual search feature. Here's how Posh Lens works:
- From the app, customers tap the Posh Lens icon in the search bar from their feed or the shop tab. They can also navigate to Posh Lens via the app’s sell tab.
- Customers then take or upload a photo from their phone to find a similar item. They do not need to describe or know the exact name of the product, brand or style. Shoppers are advised to provide an image that is clear, centered inside the frame, and taken against a simple background.
- Users then browse the search results to shop available listings. They can find the specific item they are looking for, or discover something similar.
Posh Lens is currently available for select product categories on Poshmark, including women's and men's apparel, shoes, and bags, populating results that match or closely match the searched image. The feature leverages visual search technology and artificial intelligence (AI)-based capabilities developed by Poshmark’s parent company, Korean Internet organization Naver.
Posh Lens is the first feature developed since Naver completed its $1.2 billion purchase of Poshmark in January 2023, and is the first smart lens image recognition and image-based search tool available on Poshmark. The feature is now available for all mobile app users on iOS and Android in the U.S.
