Pet Supplies Plus unifies commerce across channels

Pet Supplies Plus
Pet Supplies Plus is deploying a unified commerce platform.

The largest independent pet retailer in North America is streamlining payments online and in-store for its franchised and corporate locations.

Pet Supplies Plus has selected the Ayden unified commerce platform to process its payments online and in-store for its approximately 230 corporate locations and 400 franchisee locations in the United States. The solution includes a diverse terminal offering and a multi-channel reporting portal.

In addition, Pet Supplies Plus can leverage Adyen's franchise management solution to obtain access to real-time performance and settlement reporting designed specifically for owner-operators. Pet Supplies Plus franchises also have access to an onboarding portal that provides automated feedback, simplifying the onboarding of one or many stores for franchise owners.

"We've had a great experience working with Adyen. From their technical offering to speed of go-live, it's been a smooth transition converting to Adyen since onboarding was able to be done remotely," said Stan Mac, CIO of Pet Supplies Plus. "As we continue to grow and acquire other businesses, it's comforting to know we are set up for success as we bring on other locations or channels. As a bonus which is fun for our stores and neighbors, Adyen even engineered our terminals to play a custom sound when a transaction goes through."

"The importance of presenting a single brand across channels is increasingly evident," said Brian Dammeir, president of North America Adyen. "Adyen's single platform is unique in its capabilities of helping brands like Pet Supplies Plus implement personal shopper journeys across channels and cater to both customer and franchisee needs based on data insights. We're excited to power Pet Supplies Plus' continued impressive growth."

Pet Supplies Plus is streamlining omnichannel commerce as it pursues growth. In February 2022, the company acquired Wag N' Wash, an emerging natural pet food, self-wash, and grooming franchise with more than 15 locations. Each brand will continue to operate as separate entities, providing pet product knowledge, personalized service and a distinct playful, local shopping experience in their respective communities.

This purchase followed the 97 new store commitments Pet Supplies Plus signed in 2021. Pet Supplies Plus has also grown its footprint through acquisitions. In December, the company announced plans to acquire and rebrand an estimated 40 stores throughout Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia that were previously operated by Pet Valu.

Headquartered in Livonia, Mich., Pet Supplies Plus is a subsidiary of Franchise Group Inc. and operates more than 600 stores across 40 states. Pet Supplies Plus was acquired in January 2021 by Franchise Group in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $700 million. It was previously owned by private equity firm Sentinel Capital Partners. Pet Supply Plus stores offer a wide assortment of natural pet foods, goods and services.

The company ranked No. 20 in Entrepreneur magazine's 43rd Annual Franchise 500 list as of 2022, and is ranked as the Top Full-Service Pet Supplies Franchise for the eighth year running for its exceptional performance in areas including financial strength and stability, growth rate and system size.
