Peet's Coffee deploys AI-powered voice agent for employees
A California-based speciality coffee chain is integrating artificial intelligence into its stores.
Peet’s Coffee is partnering with SoundHound AI to deploy the firm’s Employee Assist, a voice AI-powered agent that empowers in-store teams with hands-free, real-time access to critical information, across its core U.S. retail footprint.
Internally branded as “BaristAI,” the technology enables Peet’s employees to unlock instant, accurate answers to their on-the-job questions without having to consult a manual or interrupt another colleague. Accessed via a headset microphone or digital tablet, the AI agent uses natural speech to provide support for a range of inquiries, including beverage recipe questions, nutrition information, operational help and more.
SoundHound AI noted that the technology can also reduce training time for new hires.

“At Peet’s, we’re dedicated to delivering a top-tier customer experience, and that starts with empowering our employees with the knowledge and confidence they need to do a great job,” said Gordon Bitter, senior VP of retail at Peet’s Coffee. “With SoundHound’s Employee Assist agent, we’re giving our first-class teams access to all the information they need to deliver the best food and customer support – it’s like having a digital expert in every barista’s ears.”
SoundHound AI has deployed its voice and conversational AI tools at several other restaurant companies to better streamline operations. Jersey Mike’s, Peter Piper Pizza and Red Lobster have all implemented the AI-enabled voice ordering technology.
“Peet’s Coffee is an iconic brand, known for its commitment to craft and quality. We’re proud to partner with them to showcase how voice AI can not only optimize operational efficiency but also create a more supported and seamless environment for employees,” said James Hom, chief product officer and co-founder of SoundHound AI. “When you empower a team with instant, hands-free knowledge, it directly translates into a better experience for every customer who walks through the door.”
Founded in 1966 in Berkeley, Calif., Peet’s Coffee operates more than 465 locations in the U.S., China and the Middle East.
