Party City in retail comeback — inside Staples stores
Staples has entered into a partnership to open Party City shops in its stores nationwide.
The office supplies and services giant has open branded Party City shops in more than 700 stores nationwide and also on Staples.com. The company plans to expand the experience to additional stores by the end of 2026.
The rollout comes after Party City filed for bankruptcy at the end of 2024 with plans to commence a "wind down" of its retail and wholesale operations, and went on to close its approximate 700 stores nationwide. In February 2025, Ad Populum, a pop-culture merchandise conglomerate, acquired Party City's intellectual property and wholesale operations.
Staples said the partnership brings Party City’s selection of balloons, décor and party supplies together with the office supplies retailer's same-day print and marketing services, creating a single destination for a wide range of personal and professional occasions — from birthdays and baby showers to grand openings and retirement parties. Customers can shop party décor, tableware, gift bags, costume accessories and favors, while also creating personalized invitations, banners, yard signs and posters through Staples' print services.
“Staples has always been focused on making things easy for our customers, and our partnership with Party City takes that promise into new territory,” said Marshall Warkentin, president, Staples U.S. Retail. “By bringing Party City into Staples stores, we’re expanding what customers can accomplish in one place — combining helium balloons and party supplies with our print and marketing services to offer a complete solution for celebrations, from graduations to grand openings and everything in between.”
The in-store Party City experience at Staples features a variety of ways that customers can personalize an event, including a range of latex and foil balloons inflated with helium and ready to take home. Customers can choose from a wide assortment of colors, sizes and designs. In the coming weeks, customers will also be able to schedule balloon pickups in advance through Staples.com and the Staples app.
“For as long as we can all remember, Party City has been the trusted go-to for balloons and party goods, known for quality, creativity and celebrations,” said Joel Weinshanker, CEO of Ad Populum, owner of Party City. “As we take the new Party City to more places than ever before, finding the right partners is essential. Staples stood out immediately, not only for its national footprint, but for its strong connection to the communities we have both been part of for years. It felt like a natural fit from the start."
Staples operates throughout North America via e-commerce and more than 900 retail stores.
