North Bergen, N.J. — Vitamin Shoppe Inc. has purchased FDC Vitamins LLC, doing business as Nutri-Force Nutrition, a contract manufacturer of vitamins, minerals and supplements, from MBF Healthcare Partners L.P. and other minority holders. Nutri-Force is a current manufacturer for Vitamin Shoppe as well as for other domestic and international customers and distributors.

Ankeny, Iowa — Casey’s General Stores reported that the board of directors elected Terry W. Handley to serve as president of the Company, effective immediately.  He  will continue to serve in his present role of COO.

Bolingbrook, Ill. — Vanessa Wittman, senior VP and CFO of Motorola Mobility, a subsidiary of Google, has been appointed the Ulta Beauty board of directors and as a member of its audit committee, effective June 5, 2014, following her election at the company’s annual shareholder meeting. Wittman joins the Ulta Beauty board with more than 25 years of experience in finance and technology.

New York — Wal-Mart Stores found itself at the center of two national news stories this past weekend, both of which involved fatalities.

 On Saturday, June 7, a truck driver for Walmart was charged in the highway crash that left comedian Tracy Morgan critically injured and killed one of Morgan’s associates, comedian James McNair.

Mooresville, N.C. — Paul D. Ramsay has been promoted to CIO of Lowe’s Companies Inc., effective immediately. He has been serving as acting CIO since March.  

Philadelphia — Urban Outfitters has opened a “lifestyle center” store,  in Manhattan’s Herald Square neighborhood. The 57,000-sq.ft. store is the brand’s largest location to date, and its13th store in New York City. It includes such extras as a hair salon, bookshop, coffee bar and photography shop that lets shoppers print their photos from Instagram.

New York — Coach Inc. will reportedly start offering 25% discounts on its luxury handbags at its stores in twice-a-year sales during June and December. According to Bloomberg, Coach will reduce prices on end-of-season and discount merchandise from 30-50%.

Atlanta — Shapewear wholesaler and retailer Spanx announced that Jan Singer has been named CEO of the company. She joins Spanx from Nike, where she held various senior leadership roles, including corporate VP of global apparel and corporate VP of global footwear.  

Singer, who will report to Spanx founder and owner Sara Blakely, is expected to come on board in early July.  Gregg Ribatt, interim CEO, will assist Singer through a transition, and then continue to serve on the company’s board of advisors.
