  • Survey: Most big-box shoppers believe their feedback doesn’t matter

    Toronto -- A study of big-box retail consumers, released Thursday, found that only two in five consumers believe that retailers value their input, and just 29% believe it is acted upon.

    According to the Consumer Insights Panel survey conducted by customer experience management solution provider Empathica Inc., 85% of the 6,500 consumers surveyed have provided some form of feedback to big-box retailers, yet only 46% believe that brands actually use this feedback to make constructive changes to the customer experience.

    New York  -- Macy’s, Sephora, Michael Kors and Lancome were ranked as Facebook “geniuses” in the second annual L2 Facebook IQ Index, developed in partnership with Buddy Media, a social enterprise software firm.

  • Cabela’s announces executive resignation

    Sidney, Neb. -- Cabela's Inc. announced that, effective January 1, 2013, Joseph M. Friebe, executive VP and president and CEO of the chain’s World’s Foremost Bank, will transition from his current positions and will become a special advisor to the CEO of the bank through 2014, when he plans to retire.

    “Under Joe’s leadership, the Cabela’s Club Visa program has posted industry-leading results, which have contributed greatly to our strategic growth,” said Tommy Millner, Cabela's CEO.

  • Martha Stewart revs e-commerce presence with former Anthropologie exec

    New York -- Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia said Monday it has named Michael Robinson to the newly created position of VP e-commerce.

    Robinson was most recently Anthropologie’s head of e-commerce for Europe and United Kingdom, and was responsible for launching the Anthropologie catalog and website in 1998, as well as introducing the retailer’s loyalty card program.

    He has also held managerial and planning positions with Banana Republic and Smith & Hawken.

  • Dunkin' Brands names global strategy officer and CFO

    Canton, Mass. -- Dunkin' Brands Group said Monday that it has named current CFO Neil Moses as its new chief global strategy officer, charged with driving the company's strategic initiatives.

    Paul Carbone, formerly VP finance and strategy, is being promoted to CFO.
     

  • Claire's Stores COO resigns company

    Chicago -- Claire's Stores announced Monday that its COO James G. Conroy has departed the company, effective immediately.

    Conroy's duties will be assumed by newly appointed CEO James D. Fielding, who will officially join Claire’s on June 18. Fielding had been president of Disney Stores Worldwide since May 2008.
     

  • J.C. Penney announces senior management promotions, additions

    Plano, Texas -- J.C. Penney Co. on Thursday announced several promotions and additions to its merchandising, operations and investor relations areas.

    “We’re rethinking every element of the retail business and there's no better way to re-imagine the possibilities than to tap the proven abilities of our own extraordinary talent along with the fresh perspectives offered by industry experts new to our organization,” said CEO Ron Johnson.

  • Toronto bans plastic bags

    New York -- Toronto has become the first major city in Canada to ban the use of plastic shopping bags.

    The ban was passed by the city council in a surprise move that Toronto Mayor Rob Ford denounced as “ludicrous,” The Globe and Mail reported.

    The vote bans plastic bags, including biodegradable ones, from Toronto vendors starting in 2013. But the mayor predicted the ban will face a legal challenge.
