  • Corner Bakery names new president to lead expansion

    Dallas -- Corner Bakery Café said Wednesday it has named Gary Price as president of the chain.

  • Running Specialty Group acquires Run On!

    Denver -- Regional chain The Running Specialty Group announced Wednesday it has acquired five Dallas-based Run On! stores, bring the total number of stores to 24.

    RSG is a joint venture between The Finish Line and private-equity firm Gart Capital Partners.

    Plans call for RSG to begin expanding in Texas and surrounding areas over the next five years.

     

  • Survey finds more consumers to research holiday purchases online before buying

    Los Angeles -- Survey results released Tuesday by online shopping site PriceGrabber found that 88% of shoppers plan to research their holiday gift purchases in advance to find the best deals.

    Of those, 38% plan to spend three to six hours researching holiday gift purchases, 29% plan to spend up to two hours, 19% said they plan to spend over 10 hours and 14% indicated between seven and 10 hours.

  • Walmart launches prepaid card reload program

    Bentonville, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores said Tuesday that it is launching a new service called Rapid Reload, which allows customers to load money onto prepaid cards.

    The service is affiliated with Green Dot Network, InComm's Vanilla Reload Network and First Data's Money Network.

    For a fee of $3.74, the program allows customers, effective immediately, to add money to their card at a store register.

  • Orvis selects Comosoft for multichannel media production

    Frisco, Texas -- Multichannel media production software developer Comosoft said Tuesday that Orvis has selected it to begin implementation of a system to manage Orvis’s multichannel media production process.

    The outdoor retailer is currently currently implementing Comosoft's multichannel media production system, LAGO, which is designed to drive the planning, creation, and management of multichannel marketing and product promotion.

  • Safeway extends social responsibility program

    Pleasanton, Calif. -- Grocer Safeway Inc. said Tuesday it has extended its corporate social responsibility commitment with the introduction of a new program it calls Heart of Safeway Pledge, which encourages consumers and communities to be more conservative and socially responsible.

  • Meijer to hire 12,000 holiday associates

    Grand Rapids, Mich. -- Regional grocer Meijer said Tuesday it will hire 12,000 new employees in preparation for the 2012 holiday shopping season. Most positions will be part-time.

    According to Janet Emerson, executive VP of operations for Meijer, “Our goal is to deliver the best customer experience and the lowest prices, and as we continue to grow it's so important that we have the right levels of staff and the right people in those roles."

  • SAP enhances shopper personalization

    Dallas -- SAP has launched a new service to help retailers influence consumer behavior at the moment of decision.
     
    SAP's Precision Retailing solution is said to deliver personalized offers and suggestions in real time to consumers across multiple channels, including mobile devices, in-store kiosks and websites. The company also announced the SAP Retail Store Ops Manager mobile app to further enhance in-store productivity.
