Walmart is taking its used goods offerings up a notch to offer items “like new, but without new prices.”

The retail giant is expanding its Walmart Restored program, which features refurbished tech items and appliances, with a new “Premium” tier.  Items that fall under the Restored Premium category are like new, showing no signs of cosmetic damage and  come with a one-year warranty and 30-day (or more) free returns, according to Walmart.

In addition, where applicable, batteries (in the items) will be 90% or more of the new equivalent. Also, items will be refurbished by the original manufacturer or a manufacturer-authorized third party.

Walmart noted that  its Restored program not only helps its customers save, but is also good for the planet.

“Keeping products in circulation for as long as possible is more sustainable, in line with our to enable a more circular economy in collaboration with customers, suppliers and sellers, Michael Mosser, VP and category lead, Marketplace, Walmart U.S., wrote in a blog on the company’s web site. “When we take action to reduce unnecessary waste and increase recycling, we’re working to protect the environment for future generations.”

The new Restored Premium tier also offers more opportunities for Walmart’s marketplace sellers,  enabling them to broaden their overall assortment and bring top-quality refurbished items to customers.

“With the chance to reach Walmart’s loyal customer base made even easier, sellers can help build trust toward a cycle of sales and growth, eventually expanding their capabilities into other areas — from computers to lawnmowers,” Mosser said.

The refurbished goods are featured in a dedicated “Walmart Restored” section on the chain’s website and carry the same designation. The items, from brands such as Apple, HP, Samsung and KitchenAid, also pop up in search and will be available in select Walmart stores starting in the fall.
