  • 3M Touch Systems introduces touch screen smart pen

    HANOVER, Germany -- 3M Touch Systems Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of 3M, has announced the availability of its 3M Smart Pen. According to the company this uniquely designed input device can be used with popular capacitive touchscreen devices, including the Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

  • Warehouse sector a quarterly bright spot

     ISSAQUAH, Wash. and WESTBOROUGH, Mass. -- The past three-months were favorable to the warehouse sector, as both Costco and BJ’s Wholesale reported quarterly results that were in-line with or beat analysts’ expectations.

  • Ascena Retail Group’s Q2 income nearly doubles

    Suffern, N.Y. -- Ascena Retail Group's fiscal second-quarter net income nearly doubled to top expectations, buoyed by solid results at its Justice stores.

    The company, formerly The Dress Barn, reported net income of $42.5 million for the quarter, up from $21.7 million last year.

    Revenue for the period ended Jan. 29 was up 27% to $752.2 million, better than the Street's $716.2 million estimate. Same-sale sales rose 9%.

  • Economy and weather little help at Big 5

    EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- The weak sales and profits reported Wednesday by West Coast sporting goods retailer Big 5 weren’t a surprise, as the company had warned Wall Street more than a month ago that financial results would be below expectations. 

  • Costco Q2 earnings up 16% on international growth

    Issaquah, Wash. -- Costco Wholesale Corp.'s fiscal second-quarter net income rose 16% as the chain benefited from stronger business overseas and growing membership.

    Costco reported net income of $348 million for the period ended Feb. 13, up from $299 million a year ago. The results were in line with expectations.

    Revenue climbed 11% to $20.88 billion, topping estimates of $20.4 billion. Same-store sales increased 7%. The figure rose 12% internationally and 5% in the United States.

    Naperville, Ill. — OfficeMax announced that is unveiling a new and improved version of its TUL branded dry erase markers.

    TUL dry erase markers feature non-toxic ink formula with reduced odor, a rubberized grip, ergonomic square design, and built-in magnets compatible with magnetic dry-erase boards. The lineup also includes an eraser on the cap of each marker as well as a separate magnetic eraser.

The company said it will focus its merchandising strategy on well-known designer brands that resonate with its frequent shoppers. The company has also refined its advertising outreach to communicate with Loehmann's core customers and potential new shoppers.
